Default 10W RGB LED driver boards (Ren/dumb RGB, WS2811, DMX)

Introducing 2 new members of the 10W RGB LED driver board family:

    - 10W driver board with integrated WS2811 controller
    - 10W driver board with integrated DMX controller (logic level)

The WS2811 version works just like a pixel and can be daisy chained.
The DMX version can be driven with a single wire from any DMX capable controller, but the signal has to be logic level (not differential.)

All boards will soon be available through a group buy. The target price for PCB with BOM is ~$3.25 (LED not included.)
I am also considering selling pre-assembled boards, so that buyers do not have to deal with SMD assembly. The premium for pre-assembled board will be less than $2.

Spectacular progress on these. I am curious if you have a waterproof case solution that works with them ? These would make a great Workshop Project for TASL members if we could figure out the whole materials list to make waterproof floods.

Can you explain logic level DMX vs differential ?
    Thanks,

Those boards are designed to be used standard 10W flood enclosures, like this one. It will also fit the "new" style cases.
To build complete flood, you will need the case, RGB chip (~$1.30,) and the driver board.

To best explain logic level vs differential DMX, think of 75176 (RS485 transceiver,) A & B side is differential, DI/RO side is logic level.
Logic level signal can be connected directly to MCU or any other IC. In order to use it with standard DMX equipment, you will need to add RS485 transceiver.

@RobertG, do you know when (and where) the group buy will be? DIYC?

I'll probably be interested in the logic level DMX version.

Denny - logic level is what you've been calling raw DMX on your e1.31 devices.

ukewarrior will be doing WS2811 version GB on DIYC and I will most likely do one on the green site (I am not DIYC member.)
I don't have any plans right now for DMX version GB, but I should be able to put some kits together if there's an interest.

Wow, those cases are cheap even tho they include a 10W warm white LED. I am curious if the cases can be purchased even cheaper without the LED? This is a great way to make some decent DMX RGB spots on the cheap !...

@mpurser Mike Purser, how much did you pay for your small DMX floods from Ray Wu and what wattage were they ?

I think the pixel version might be least cost way to go. Even for someone not yet running pixels, you can buy a pixel controller for the same or less cost than a DMX controller. And the Pixel controller would run off the ethernet port of the computer instead of the overloaded USB ports. And you would not have to add the RS485 chip to use a DMX controller.

I like your wiring standard with 3-conductor wire. Using 12V (which is most common with local members), have you thought about how many of these could be looped on a particular wire gage ? And also what connector standard would work ? If these are at the "end of the run" on a particular DMX output from a controller, then a termination resistor could be added to the last plug.
    Thanks,

denny i paid 50 each mine are 30 watts each and use 24 volts i bought 5 and love them i did have to install a resistor to the last one to termite the signal runing them off a 684 on e1.31 over 200 foot from the house with no issues last year

My wiring is different now and here is my suggested connection for my 10W pixel flood.
#1 is of course 10W driver board (WS2811)
#2 wire harness with 5 pos 0.1" wafer connector
    #3 Ray's 4 core male pigtail
    #4 Ray's 3/4/3 core T splitter
#5 Ray's 3 core extension cables, like this one, or pigtails

I may offer wire harnesses with GB or separately, and possibly include terminal PCB, which will make connecting pigtails to the harness extremely easy.

NIce progress. Please post some pictures with the full case with reflector, plus the enclosure sealed and waterproofed. It would also help so show some RGB night videos so people can see how the 20W units perform. Is this one still a WS2811 pixel ?
    Thanks,
