    Default TASL February Meeting

How does the last Saturday in February for the meeting sound? How about lunch first (pot luck/covered dish) and presentations until 4 or 5pm. Mark usually comes to the meetings, and I thought we should try to accommodate his drive from High Point since he has been a regular presenter. This thread is to hash out the dates. When we get a consensus, I'll start a new thread. If we get a lot of presenters then we can back up the starting time a little earlier.

I want to do a presentation of the Bang Star (maybe in conjunction with Denny) and moving head lights.

We should have a round table discussion of what we did correctly and poorly this year. We all learn from individual successes and mistakes.

Vic, do you think we can use the meeting place we discussed?

What other presentations would you guys like?

How about April 16 for a Bang and Walter Star welding workshop.

    Al,
I think that date would be good.

We discussed last night having a discussion about collecting donations. How to work with the organization, how to collect and advertise. A couple of the guys have some good experiences that they can share. I think it was Scott M and Scott L who we talked to about that last night.

I'd also be interested in someone sharing the concept of "tracks" in LOR. I just haven't been able to figure out how to make that work. I have a video projector if that would help out for presentations.

The last weekend of Feb is good for me as I'm tied up the 19th & 20th. Last night Jack mentioned DMX and I'd love to hear more about it, sources, pro's / cons etc. With the cost per channel being less, I'd certainly like to learn more. I'm anticipating a sizable LOR order during their upcoming sale. Would love to hear options and recommendations.

I'd also like to learn more about CCR's? The way Al has his wreaths set-up to minimize wiring.

As of right now, the time frame for the February get-together is good for me and I believe it is for Charity as well.

As to the workshop on April 16th, well, something TomD said.....the Lions Club Charity and I are involved in are having a fund raiser that day. I won't push that here, other than to say if you'd like a steak dinner for two, it involves that.

But don't let that stop that date from being scheduled for a work day; it's what's best for the group that counts.

Al - you've mentioned a "knuckle pivot" for megatrees several times; do you have any "blueprints" for those? I won't ask to have that in the first workshop. I also want a bang star or five......but willing to try working on both outside a workshop.

As to the pot luck for the February meeting, that sounds like a great idea.

The megatree knuckle design has yet to be finalized. We have workshops on published, finalized designs but this may make it this year. I plan to make the knuckle as soon as I am well. Having the tree up and in place really helps me visualize what I require. We can work on the knuckle outside of the workshops. Denny and I have done that and will continue into the future. I'll let you know when we get together again. I have enough steel in storage to make a few of these. I bought a 20' stick of 2"x2"x1/4" (or 3/8") and need about 4'. I'm sure I can be persuaded to let you have some of the rest since I have no idea what I will do with that much steel. I think the steel was about $2-3 per foot which is about 1/4 the Lowe's price.

Vic, do you think we can use the meeting place we discussed?
    Al, No.

My meeting place would only replace our little starbucks after hours meets.

I will keep my eyes open for other options though.

Late in February should work for me...As of right now, my schedule is somewhat fluid and won't stabilize till a week or so before.

I can do a DMX presentation, but am more than willing to give someone else the opportunity as well.

For those that didn't make it to the Convention last year, I can bring my ECG-DMXRen8 that Ed (j1sys) talked about. And William can bring one of his DR4's to show how to do DMX via Ethernet. I can also bring examples of several DMX controllers that I've either built or bought.

Who knows - by late February, I might get a few pixel strings and build my Aussie TP3244 DMX pixel controller.

New location - new display. Looking forward to 2015 season!

I will have to leave the Feb mtg early and will not be able to make the star workshop. Again.
