Default Carpenter Lights - change is a good thing...

I've finished a good portion of the infrastructure for a HUGE change to Carpenter Lights. I can't wait to show y'all really soon. I just need to go re-sequence all my songs real quick... heh... "real quick"... Right...

Will let y'all know when it's up and running!

Al - Sorry, it's nothing you can steal.

Scott, that is too bad. Could you go buy some good stuff and let me know? I might need to send Walter as I'm really busy right now.

yeah, quick changes. No such thing..... I had to put in some time on 1 song, then I had a template to follow for the others...I change display every year, so most changes due to controller placement.

Looking forward to seeing it ! No hints yet ?

Dariusz made a bunch of changes this year with 4 arches and a mega-tree.

I left 2010 stuff the same, but added new effects and some layout improvements. Was able to keep 99% of last year's wiring intact !

Ok, the cat is out of the bag! Three neighbors have approached me about joining the show. So we've worked over the past few weeks to get their lights up and with great aplomb we turned on one synchronized song last night. One more came online today. I hope to get a third complete song in place tomorrow. I might even get another house added to the show as well.

With more planning next year, I might even make it look good!

Please come out and check out the show. I'll get videos up as soon as I can, but might wait until I get a fifth house on line, if they are willing. Stop by if you'd like to see how it all works!

I love that quote .. And it always makes me wonder who put the cat in the bag in the first place? And what did the cat do to deserve such treatment? And did the guy own the cat or did he catch someone else's cat ? How did the cat feel about all this? I am always glad that the cat deos get let out of the bag .. I hope he ran away !

I'd love to see us get another post going about light template schemes in sequencing multiple houses. It is massively painful for you to allow special and unique programing for every house. Open up a new post about this so we can throw ideas into the bucket ! Wow .. what a cool Animator if you get some little areas drawn to represent each house .. I can see Wizards in Winter, with lights sweeping around the Cul-de-Sac already !

What is the range on the wireless <ELLs> ?
    Thanks,

The ELLs have a line of sight range of about a 1000 feet. **

They can be configured to act as repeaters for more range or when turning corners etc.

I love my ELLs. *Super product.

Yea, I need to work on the ELLs. I was noticing late last night that the neighbor's lights don't all come on when they should and sometimes even at all. I've never messed with them in the hardware editor so I need to test that out before I go play with them all around the yard(s). I know y'all offered several suggestions to me the night I bought them. I just need to go dig through those posts and find what y'all said to do. I think there were varying opinions, too. So I'll probably play with a couple settings over a couple nights just to see which ones work best in my situation. Will let y'all know how that goes. I will probably have to figure out how to move the one in my garage outside, too. That should prove interesting.

And Denny's and Al's comments from last year and spot on - don't take on new projects after August. Or in my case, November... Working on these updates in every spare minute. I do get to enjoy it some. It's pretty cool seeing what you put into a sequence without any pictures turn into an actual "something" in the display! Gives you goosebumps. Either that or it's standing in 30 degree temps for an hour at 11:00 at night...

Ok, I would like to have an update. Scott, did you manage to get all of your neighbors to participate? I know you were having problems getting in touch with one neighbor.

Al - I still only have three other neighbors in the show. It's mostly a time issue on my side. If they had asked to get in the show in January whenI first asked them, I would have had time to make it all work better... And buy additional ELLs... Two other neighbors are also interested for next year. I might have convinced another last night. We'll see in the coming weeks. That would put me up to 7 houses, two sides of the street, all within four houses of each other. Would essentially be the entire end of the street.

I still need to tweak the ELLs, but that might wait until later. Not sure how I'd test it later, but we'll see...

I don't have the crowds that Denny gets and don't want them either. I stood out last night and handed out candy canes with a Mickey wizard hat on. It was great talking to folks and answering questions. One even had seen one of the Fuquay displays with the CC promo and so they had a sheet of paper with about 10 addresses on it, including mine, that they were trying to visit.

At some point last night we had about 7-8 cars in the street. Other times, there was no one. I handed out about 100 candy canes or so to folks, but had several cars come through that I didn't get a chance to talk to. I usually let them watch at least part of a song before I'd walk up to the car, hand them candy canes and say "Merry Christmas", "thanks for coming out to see the show", or "how'd you hear about the lights". All were great "ice breakers" with folks I didn't know. It was good fun! Some stayed the entire set, others only saw half a song and then left. They must not like WIW either...

As far as programming, I did get to update three songs. One even includes a sweep of individual items across all four houses. It's really neat! Gives me goose bumps watching it cuz it's sooo cool!

Hope y'all get a chance to come out and see the show!!

Well, here it is. Video #1 from the show. Spent a few hours tonight getting the timings to be close. I'm a little off on the first shot, but the others are in good shape. Some of the shots are of the individual houses in the show. One house does not appear as their lights were off or behind bushes in the overall view when I was recording the video. Additionally, the wide video is a bit out of focus, but it's good enough to get a feel for the entire display. Recording next year, I might have to rent a bucket truck or scissor lift to get the video to cover all the lights.

Enjoy! Let me know what you think!!!
