Default 17 feet MC sign complete!

I finally finished my 17 feet by 3 feet MC sign this weekend. It's lighted by red and green rope lights and 10 strobes. Each letter can be controlled independently. It's built in three sections for ease of storage. I know it's old school, no fancy RGB's or anything but hey, I like it! It looks real good at night, here is a day shot of it.

Do you have any close ups? I wanted to make one of these this year yours looks great! How many feet of rope light did you need and adapters?

I can't take credit for the design, I got the plans here T2Lights.com - Animated Christmas Sign he has all the pics and how much rope light you need. It's alot easier to build than it looks. The only thing I did different was built a frame with legs. The frame is 2X2 wood (I just split a 2X4) If you look at his sign you'll notice the y drops below the frame, so I just moved my letters up to the next line on the grid. The M and the C over lap the top of the frame so I added some extra support to those two.

The rope lights are led and came from Creative Displays on a 150' roll (you don't need that much) each roll comes with 4 splicing kits so I had to buy 2 more kits (4 per kit) to connect each letter.

Very nice. Any chance to see a video of it being tested?

Would it be possible to make the frame from PVC to make it lighter? Wood weighs a lot, bu then, rope light can weigh a lot as well, possibly too much to make something like that out of PVC without a lot of bracing.

I have a detached garage with a roof you can see a block away; I want to do something with that, and this project might fill that bill.

I don't have any video of it being tested yet. I've been busy working on other stuff too, but when I do video it i'll post it here.

A PVC frame would be easy to make I just wasn't sure how to attach the wire to it and make sturdy (the wire flexes real easy) so I just used wood to build the frame and nailed the wire to it. It's not real heavy but the rope lights did add weight to it.
