An interesting request since those cost nearly as much as the 16 channel. Why not use 16 and leave some spares in case any channels fail ?

I have a timer that's what I been doing for years. I just wanted it to all come on and go off at the same time.

how much stuff can one channel handle it if so make an animation seq to turn the stuff on when you need it to set the leight of time for the seq to cover the whole show and in the show builder let it run in the background and do not use that channel in any other seqs. i run my edm that way

Not much to know. Buy the Renard and assemble it (soldering). The PIC(s) will need flashed with DMX firmware, the only caveat is Renard and LOR have pins 4&5 swapped on their communication so a cat5 cable with those two pins swapped fixes that. Then use it the same as you would a LOR controller.
There are many folks on DIYC that use them together for various reasons. You can build a SS8 for under $75, then include the AC wiring which most seasoned users have laying around already.
If you want more info you can PM me for my phone# I will gladly answer any questions I can. Much easier than typing text.

Shannon - referencing what Wayne J said - there will be a group buy over on DIYC starting on February 1st.

Renard SS 2014 Group Buy INTEREST ONLY to give you an idea of estimated prices of the 8/16/24 channel boards. On page 7 James announced when he will open the group buy.

Since many people are switching to pixels, this group buy doesn't fill up as fast as it used to (one time reached its maximum number of members in about 45 minutes) but don't expect it to stay open long.

I highly recommend getting the heat sink with it. It helps line up the triacs during assembly, would be a bear to add in later because of the triac line-up issue, and where else will you get a hunk of metal pre-drilled for that application?

BTW, a 24 channel is only about $30 more than an 8 channel there. Cost per channel really goes down then. Keep in mind, though, it's limited to 2 amps per channel and (if I remember correctly) 12 amps per channel bank. That is lower than the LOR design.

And I keep my FM transmitter on 24x7 during the season, run Zara radio through it when the show isn't going. I do have my audio amp for the outside speakers on a timer.

Yes, 2A per channel, but it comes with a 10A fuse per bank, and is limited to 15A per side with a fuse change. This has to be kept in mind when choosing power feed cables. The reason I spec'd a 10A fuse in the BOM is because most of us use the 13A indoor cords or SPT2.

LOR, Renard, AL, Lynx are all the same basic controller - microprocessor/PIC and Triacs to turn the AC on/off. It's just the manufacturing and programming that are a little different.

Of course, they speak different languages, but since Renard can have DMX firmware, it will work with LOR software too, even at the end of a Pixel bridge if you like...

It just a matter of cost and how much work you want to do vs. buying it pre-made.
