if I get a timer and put it on my mini director , wouldn't that basically be a timing trigger for my show? that's if I don't use a computer to control the show/ Just weighing options and need a little feedback

I am curious about this myself. Have you looked into the finer details of the mini director to see if there is an external trigger ? I think the full director has one. I have seen where people that are rural would put a big push button out near the road with a lit sign instruction people to push the button to watch the show. If the mini also have an external trigger then you could use a simple house timer with an AC relay on it to close the circuit and kick on the show. Let us know what you find.
This might be a great question for the the DIYC site since there are a lot of people there who design unique stuff (for others)...

The mDC-MP3(mini Director Card with MP3 Player) is designed to control a network of Light-O-Rama (LOR) light controllers while simultaneously playing MP3 music files. This is our smallest director unit. It does not have an internal clock for scheduling shows so an external timer is required. It can be triggered by external switches and/or motion detectors
