Default LOR upgrade costs posted today...

FYI...Estimate of what major LOR upgrades will cost in the future, this was posted today on the LOR forums by Dan:

    Hi,

We do not have the price selected yet but I think about 1/4 the current price.

I was poking around on this same subject today. And although they have not released anything that requires an upgrade, I did notice in my license information that is does say ADVANCED and it also says "Max Version: 2.9 (and any future versions released by June 17, 2010)" ===> Yesterday !

I guess since I just installed Version 2.7.6, I'm maxed out unless I upgrade.

I will need to make a value judgment this year as to whether there's anything in their new features I can actually use. Although I like the basics, I don't have a lot of confidence in their features working as they describe. Particularly the Automatic Beat Detection feature that they advertise strongly - - yeah right ! .... NOT ! but that's probably a good topic for a different posting !
    Thanks,

One of my concerns is will I need to pay for upgrades once a year from here on? I guess the answer is yes, since I want a beat wizard that actually works and an animation screen where I can copy and paste.

I was chatting with Don Williams at one of the TASL meets and he is still using like 1.5 or something like that.
My point is he settled in on that version and is happy with it. I think this upgrading is going to get too pricy and it may be time to say to myself "I'm happy with it the way it is" and direct my limited funds to hardware and lighting upgrades.

At any rate, for now, I'm going to wait and evaluate along with you.

    Thanks John,

I'm pleased with the price and the upgrades.

Built in snubbers is a must on the controllers.

I don't use snubbers with my CDI LEDs, but I'm excited about the custom fade ranges for the LEDs. I can optimize the fade range for the different colors and its set for that channel, no matter how I sequence.

I remember Dan saying it would probably cost about $20 to upgrade.

So if I by it now, I'll have to pay $20 to upgrade in a couple months? Um, what other programs are available again?

Go ahead and download the current version but do not buy it.

You can sequence in it using demo mode.

$20 for a software upgrade? What is this world coming to?

My company is looking at a software upgrade for an IP address inventory tool; if we upgrade the current program to the latest version, it's "only" $1.00 per IP address per year maintenance. We have about 5 million IPv4 IP addresses and just got about 30 million IPv6 addresses.

We are looking at other products; I don't want to raise everybody's DSL costs to cover a software upgrade.
