That ties in with Sean's post ..

Now it's even funnier that two weeks ago they erased my post on the LOR Forum when I suggested they buy xLights. THEN they buy xLights.

I look forward to their full integration of pixels into LOR and a more efficient run time engine. I also hope they don't run the price through the roof to get the features. They have been on the verge of losing thousands of licenses and this new plan sounds pretty good to shore up their business. I am happy to hear it (finally) !
    Thanks,

OK, I was going to do it anyway some time soon. Time to get the latest version (may wait for the next .x.1 release, though)

I think it's important to understand that they didn't 'buy' XLights/Nutcracker. They bought a copy of the source code in it's somewhat current version. One time purchase, and the original XLights is still a separate code base and is open source.

So they can use the code and make something of it. But I seriously doubt they'll totally convert to Xlights/Nutcracker as a runtime. There's too much already in LOR to make it what it is...

All that being said, it's a good move to get help with moving into the 20th century of pixels...

I agree Mark. I think they get two things from the source.

First they get a look at how xLights is compacting their run time.. this is likely just a reference for LOR to get a look inside xLight. I would not make sense for LOR to actually duplicate the xLights format. I am sure LOR already has ideas for how they can compact theirs, so the xLights version is just something to compare against. This is not likely not the prime reason for acquiring the source.

Second they will get all the effects logic (and modifiers), and integrate some of them into LOR. Some of the modifiers in Nutcracker are not easy to understand how to get good effects from them, so I would hope LOR might work to tune them into more immediately useful effects.
