Default 2.8.8 issue with lights not synced to words

Question for those who watch the other forums more than I do....

I'm running S2 v2.8.8 and am having issues where if I play the "full sequence", the words and music is in one place. If I play "selection", then the words and music could be tenths to a full second off.

Any idea if this is a known bug? I'm only experiencing it so far in one song, but I haven't gone back to see if the ones I just finished are seeing the same thing.

    Thanks for your help!!!

Scott - it sounds like you're using MP3's with variable bit rate rather than fixedd bit rate.

When you start at the beginning of the sequence, it kn0ws where to find the spot in the MP3 your sequence is at, but when you don't (play selected) it may just be doing its best guesstimate.

I don't know of any easy ways to tell what format bit rate your music is saved at - variable or fixed - when I hover my mouse pointer over an mp3, it tells me the bit rate, but not fixed or variable.

Audacity can convert a variable to fixed bit rate. If you ripped these from a CD yourself, you need to specify the saved file is to be a fixed bit rate.

Why the difference? VBR takes up less disk space and generally is undetectable by the human ear.

Of course, that's just a guess based on what I've read. I haven't experimented to try to duplicate this.

I had a similar problem once, I converted the music file to Wav format using audacity and it corrected it.

Last year I got away with a couple MP3s as long as I ripped them. Perhaps it was by luck I used Fixed bit rate. But I also used a couple WAV file songs last year. I think for all new songs I will stick with WAV files so I don't attract any future headaches.

Another new thing this year is I have not been avoiding my DJ library for the songs I am sequencing. Mostly because many of those songs were shared between several of us DJs. I cannot be sure which ones I purchased and probably could not show proof of the purchase. So this year I am buying fresh MP3s from Amazon so I can be assured I have proof. Cheap insurance for 99 cents since we're playing and broadcasting music to the public. And starting tonight I will also pop them through Audacity to convert to WAV ..

THANKS for the great tip Vic !!

Jack nailed it. Export it as an MP3 using Audacity and all will be well. As William and John pointed out to a pointy head on LOR, unless you are using the Showtime Director then it must be 128K fixed only.

MP3- 128Kbps ONLY if using the Director. Otherwise 192kbps or 320kbps is fine as long as it is CONSTANT bit rate.

Wave is still easier and much more accurate on the timings. I sequence with wave, then convert to MP3 for the mini-director.

If I'm not using a mini director do I need to convert back to MP3 or is it best to just leave my songs as WAV?
