    Default My setup

Well, I figured I would show what I use to run my display.
It is six Renard 64's, which are home etch. They are the only ones in existance. No one had ever attempted to etch a 64, so I decided to take on the challenge, drew up the files needed, and fired up the etching tank. I worked on this setup for months ( 5 months I think) I also made the enclosure for them. It is this design that sparked the Renard SS that I came up with.

Looks great Wayne. Very nicely done. Thanks for showing us that there is a very viable alternative to the commercial stuff i.e. Lightorama.

The main box is the control hardware. The 90 cables (yes, 90 )
go out to 4 channel relay boxes placed all over the yard that the display items plug into. I use this method so I have less extension cords to deal with. Plus, I place a large ziplock bag over them, paint the bag black, and they are invisible at night.

Wayne, I think I know the answer but some of the folks here might not. Why do you use Renards instead of the new Lynx Express or one of the others?

For the folks that don't know Renards and Lynx Express are DIY boards that a small group of people designed on an open source platform. You buy the parts and pc board and put the equipment together yourself.

One the Lynx express didn't exist at the time ( I think). Second, I am pretty sure the Renards are cheaper to build. I am not real informed on RJ's stuff, so I cannot really elaborate.
Renards do offer two platforms.... a main controller with satilite SSRs. (such as I use.) Or, a on board SSR design that can be placed in the display, ie, Renard SS boards or like the Lynx Express systems.

That is what I thought. I've tried to find the schematics to the Lynx Express and have not been successful. I looked into the Renards once upon a midnight dreary, but I don't remember much about them. Maybe somebody here would like to explain the differences to us. I'm all ears and John is all ugly.

That's so cool. I wish I was good at designing electronics so I could put together a signal system for my railroad. But then again, I'll be the only one running the train (bringing up the wood.)
