    Oh yea!

Welcome to CC Dave.... enjoy your stay and if you need anything here, just ask. The folks around here are great with the exception of an alien. He's from the state that's directly west and closest to us.

    Hi Dave,

Welcome to CC. Next year we plan to do some DIY controller stuff that may interest you. It is similar to LOR equipment just far cheaper. We will talk more about this next year. Add you display to the Carolina Christmas Display thread. Little or big it is all good. We have a local group that I coined the name TASL for Triangle Area Synchronized Lighting. We get together occasionally to discuss anything and everything related to having a display. We all leave learning something new.

Welcome Dave ! I live in Cary and new to LOR this year, starting with 96 channels.

We might be able to help you add to your system next year with some DIY gear. At least a handful of us plan to form a mini "group" t build our own controllers for next year's expansion. You can build DMX-based control units for about $4 a channel ! There's a bit more to it if you also want to keep your LOR gear. Stay in touch here. We'll be doing some group buys for the boards and components. There are some members of this site who are already experimenting with mixing different brands of controllers. We have our fingers crossed for favorable results.
    Thanks,

Welcome, Dave. Sold 6 controllers, huh? That probably makes you more experienced than KidCole, who is more experienced than me......

When you say ... i would like to have a class or mini on dmx........does that mean attend or teach? Either would be good, the latter would be better for some of us!

attend , teach its all the same, i think everyone here can teach each other on how to use different things. for instence, i tried a mega tree last year and it did not turn out the way i wanted it to. so i would like to know more about that. i tried to use the idmx from lor, my opinion was it was a little hard to use, i have a software from american dj for dmx and it is straight to the point. i would like to see them come out with something like that.
as i reread my post my grammer is not the best lol and im not going to fix it...lol lol lol

I think we can all have some fun with the DIY gear. I believe Walter is integrating multiple brands of hardware to help pave the way for us. The Light Show Pro software supports multiple brands of hardware including LOR and DMX. So I believe that is the one we'll all need to mix up the types of controllers. I am also jazzed on the DC controllers for selected effects with LEDs and RGBs. The retail LED strings will run much simpler on DC controllers instead of the crappy rectifiers that come with them.

I am also a DJ, but my experience with DMX is to plug in the cable for my Martin Acrobat's controller.

I've also learned how much I like the Mega-Tree with regular mini bulbs instead of LEDs. We use C9s around windows and C7s to outline the house. It gives the house a reall classic look and I think we'd lose that look if I moved to LEDs for everything. I think mixing in LEDs for bright accents and specific locations.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to CC, Dave.

I've got 5 DYI controllers this year - 4 Lynx Express 16 channel ones, and 1 MR16 driving LED RGB+W floods. I've got the wireless connections for these, but have been having some interference issues that may force me to move to wired connections in the short term.

I'm also got some DMX DC SSR PCBs coming from a guy in Australia that I may use for my LED floods next year.

Two good sites to watch for the DIY stuff are:

    www.diylightanimation.com

    and

    www.doityourselfchristmas.com

Just remember why you do this, and it will all be worth it!

PS. Denny, I'm using C7 LED's to outline my roof this year to get the "old time" look with the power usage of LEDs. Warm/sun white color look almost totally like incandescents.

New location - new display. Looking forward to 2015 season!
