    Default Hello everyone

Hey everyone , glad to be here . I thought you needed someone from Asheville on here. I've put a display up for a few years now and am trying to switch over to all LEDs and want to learn more about using channels and putting on a bigger show.

Hi JP .. I can't tell your name from your post. Welcome to CC. Feel free to discuss your setup and what you'd like to do with it. Members here will help any time you need.

One thing you need to do is decide how much you are willing to invest. The majority of us are Light O Rama users. LOR has great support and can handle heavier loads for the larger incandescent lights. Of course it costs more. If you're on a tight budget there are many kits available to build you own controllers and also some free software packages that are pretty decent. You'll need to study up on the different technologies that drive the signals from the computer to your light controls, and all the tradeoffs that go with them. A couple years ago there were not as many choices as there are today. Some of us are now starting to mix the different technologies, but the best advice is for you to start with one plan for controllers and software ... then expand any way you like after you get real familiar (a season or two) with your "base" design. It is very late to be starting anything for this year. About the latest to start on your very first year is May or June. You should already have your controllers running and your software channels defined by now .. and probably should be a month or more into your sequencing (songs) as of today .. after your first year, it's not quite as difficult to update your songs to add in the new effects. New songs will continue to take a longer time to create as you add in more channels.

The latest LED technologies called "pixel strings" take the "channels" concept to a whole new level since every bulb becomes a channel. In that case the software moves to a whole new level, requiring more sophisticated software tools to help you manage it all.

    Welcome to the insanity !
    Thanks,
