Default New DMX Controlled RGB Floodlight

I recently bought a floodlight that I have wanted for a while, so I thought I would post it here to see if folks have an interest in it. I bought and built several Mighty Minis but was not impressed with the light output. This floodlight is a DMX (protocol to control the lights similar to LOR's) controlled that is RGB (Red, Green, and Blue or rather color), and water resistant (IP65 class 1, and is super bright. The RGB allows you to have different colors, and you can control the intensities too.

    Here is the specification:

12 each 1 watt (huge, huge LED) of each color or red, green, and blue. 36 Watt total
    120 Volt AC input.
    DMX controlled
Water resistant (IP65 Class 1 but I think it could meet a much higher rating).
Cost was about $98 without shipping (shipping for a large group buy would amount to around $10-$15 each I think)
    Glass front.
Made to be permanently mounted outside but should last very long time for Christmas displays.
Has control panel on rear that allows it to be used without connection to computer.
Can be used as a huge strobe light. Has built in strobe function.

This is one tough and bright light. This is not a DIY light but a commercial grade, stage light. Its light output is probably 10 times that of a Mighty Mini. I plan to order about six of them which should bring the cost down. I will show off this light at the next TASL meeting and during the Carolina Convention. You folks that will only use Lightorama stuff should pay attention. This is a plug and play light that you can program with Lightorama's software if you use a iDMX module. The iDMX module is somewhat pricey but it opens up the world to you with commercial lights that cost much less than LOR's. We will likely have a group buy of this light shortly after the convention or earlier if the TASL folks want.

Not right now. It looks like a big, square spot. I take it from the lack of responses that no one is interested. I guess I am wasting my time posting anything constructive here.

    Al,

Gee, you wait a whole 24 hours or so and don't get much of a response, so you're kinda quick to pull the trigger on this, eh?

I'm not sure that a LED spot or wash is in my future show plans right now. There's too much other stuff that I'm working on that takes priority, and I don't know that I want to add a big wash.

And while I'd love to get a few for my church, it's not in the budget right now.

But I'd wait till the next TASL meeting to gauge the interest. And pictures would be helpful...

I would be interested in them. I am trying to come up with a RGB lights that I can use as landscape lighting. This maybe just what I need.

I'm interested but we need pics.

This would help me in another project I'm doing.

But remember, a cheaper dmx dongle is coming out this year from LOR.

    Al,

Would that look good washing the front of our house from on the porch behind one of the columns? Does it have that much light output?

Thanks for your help (and patience with us checking in during the "slow season"...)!!

The original post stated a group buy after the convention or before if TASL wanted. I think that isn't "pulling the trigger" on this too soon.

Scott, this is a nice and bright spot. Dang, you might want to leave it out year round. After adding the MMs to my display this year, the spots added a nice dimension to the display. I will bring this to the next TASL meeting and convention but seeing it after dark is a must. I may bring it to Cary after dark one weekend so you guys can see it in person. We can use your house as a test bed. I could light my entire house with 2 of these especially with a wider viewing angle. The spot I have has 25 degree viewing angle LEDs, and we would likely get a 60 degree viewing angle. The manufacturer says that the 60 degree is popular.

I posted a pdf file of the user manual above.

I like the looks of that sucker.

Will it get the job done is the question.

Just out of curiosity, what are the dimensions on that bad boy? Looks pretty cool. Just curious if it would hide behind my columns well enough... I didn't see any of those details in the manual or in your note above.

    Thanks!!

Depending on the cost of these units, I could be interested in them as well.
