So I bought two kits of Rainbow Flood Lights to test out.
In the meantime, is this PS a good deal?

I also have some of the Rainbow floods on order. I'm very impressed with the reviews I've read.
Re: power supply, here is a link to the same supply, $5 cheaper. The difference might come down to the shipping cost. I found the shipping to be less with the MPJA one, plus I ordered some other stuff from MPJA I needed at the same time.

This one has the same specs, just a different mfg, and is $7 cheaper

Those PS will easily handle 8 of the floods. Plus, if you leave off the RJ45 connectors when you assemble the board, and hardwire inside the housing, you can put two of those in each of the flood housings you bought a few weeks ago. That's what I'm planning to do with the Northern Tool flood housings I bought.

Hmm, just looked at Greg's store. Only 21 complete kits left at $14.75.
I had ordered 10 kits, 2 boards per lamp housing, so a single LOR DC will handle 5 double housing. Should be very very bright.
This is the power supply I actually ordered to handle the 10 boards, it has a 12.5 amp rating.

These are the housings I'm using. A few weeks ago, they were on sale for $4.99 each.

John, that could be a good presentation at the convention.
Comparing several types of lights and experiences.
I had thought about bringing one of the Rainbows and one of the Mighty Minis.
Or better yet, since I'll have my truck full of wireframes and stuff, if someone else wants to volunteer that would be fantastic.
Less stuff to have to unload from the truck into the hotel room each night.

I can bring a couple of the Rainbow's if someone else can bring a couple of mini's.
Great! Mine were shipped last Thursday, not sure when I'll get them built! Also received a Lynx Express last week that I'm trying to get built also.
Be sure and post pics of yours

This will be my first DIY soldering project, lol.
I like the way these things look.
You will do great with these.
This is a pic that Bill Hoffman posted on the Seasonal Entertainment forum showing a single board in a 250 watt flood housing and 2 boards in a 500 watt flood housing. I've already spray painted my Northern Tool housings black.

I will be bringing some MM's to the mini. I'll also probably be bringing my "stars/snowflakes" that I plan to build out of Frank Kotysun's LED strips with some new controllers (Ren48LSD) that I'm running the parts buy for on DIYC right now.
From the looks of the Rainbow floods, they are using the same Pirranna/SuperFlux LEDs that are on Frank's strips.
With all the floods coming out these days, everybody wants to see how wide a spread a flood has. In my mind, I want floods to put out a more narrow spread, with uniform color/lighting in the beam, and then have enough of the floods to either fill the area with the same color, or be able to have "areas" of different colors.
After sorting over 5000 LEDs this past weekend, I don't want to look at a LED for a few days...

New location - new display. Looking forward to 2015 season!
I think a hotel demo is in order for the floods one of the evenings we're all there after it gets dark... But we need to plan it in advance for those of us that have free places to stay in the area so we can participate in the festivities, too!![]()

Mark, I will agree with you.
Using my Mighty Mini's in my Memorial Day display this year, I realized I was going to need a whole lot more then the 8 I built.
Looking at the Rainbows for approx $15 each plus a $5 housing, compared with approx $50 - $55 each for the MM, I decided to add 10 of the Rainbows to my mix.
I can run 5 Rainbows per LOR DC controller, verses 4 of the MM.
So with 18 floods, I'm sure I'll be able to get all the coverage I could possibly want! Be it a focused small area, or a wide wash, depending on the distance from the house I place them.
Is one better then the other? I don't know, as I haven't built the Rainbows yet. Do I care if one is better then the other? Nope.
I believe each product will fill a special niche in my display, and I'm open to doing some product mixing when necessary. (Especially when I adding up dollars!)
