Thank you William. From my interpretation of the video, the light output and flash rate of the CDI xenon strobe is the same as the CLS xenon strobe condensation collector. There is a huge difference between the LED and xenon.

If the condensation tests go as expected, then the CDI xenon strobe will be an excellent replacement for the CLS junk strobe.

Thank you William for the video tests

It confirms that now we have even more flexibility in designing our displays.

Use the xenon strobes for broad "lighting" style effects and use the LED for "pinpoints of light" effects.

Last year I had both types on the same string, but I think I'll split them onto separate strings for this year.

On a megatree, the LEDs could be used for "twinkling flashes" even in slower songs and the xenon for the "big wow" explosions.

Thanks again for the videos, much easier on my eyes then trying to do my own comparisions staring at those things

    Stress Test Results:

48 hours both strobes are still working fine. The first 24 hours was continual flashing in the refrigerator and outside.

The second 24 hours, the power state changed. :

Piddling around in the garage most of the day today. Plugged and unplugged the outside strobe about every 30 minutes, if it was unplugged - plugged it in - then unplugged about 30 minutes later, repeat. Pretty humid today.

Everytime I went in the kitchen, I unplugged the one in the frig. When I got ready to leave the kitchen - 5 to 30 minutes later, plugged it back in. Finally had to remove from the frig. The female returned from the grocery store this evening. The frig is no longer empty, and no room for the strobe anymore.

CONCULSION: These two test strobes preformed very well in these conditions

Thank you John. I know you did your very best and more. How you participated is the fabric of the cloth that your are cut from. Thank you again,

Not that it matters, I will not buy any CDI strobes nor will recommend the strobes until the testing is complete. Paul Sessell knows that we are testing the strobes but has not participated in the process. Darryl's crap sucks but it it predictable. I would rather have predictable any day than unknown.

Darryl does replace the broken units.

And, Paul has replaced mine too.

Just for grins and giggles... I might buy another box to cover my losses from past years.

John... let's do one more test.

Place the following on one string at a time and tell us what they pull (amps) with your kill-a-watt.

    10 CLS
    10 CDI
    10 CDI LED

This maybe something to do a presentation on.

I can do that, will need to dig out a couple of C9 stringers and the CLS and CDI LEds from storage. (I just used a couple of C9 vampries clipped on to some SPT wire for the other tests)

Not yet. Haven't had time to get over to the storage warehouse yet and dig out the stringers and other strobes. Didn't have that stuff at home.

In actuality, John has been hanging out with an ex-wife. Which reminds me, if you have an extra one (ex-wife), could you give one to Walter. I feel sorry for the guy being almost 25 years old and not having an ex-wife. He doesn't want mine in fact nobody wants her.

Got my strobes out of storage to start setting up the 4th July display. (was also a great time to retest and inventory the prior years purchases) I'll use a mix of all three types this year.

This was a challenge for the kill-o-watt. I let each string run for about 2 minutes, and the results above was the highest reading I saw during that time. It depended on how many were charging up to flash at the same time and how fast the meter could measure, compute and display the readings

    John... thank you.

    Those results are interesting.

Looks like CDI strobes pull much less.

I would say you have more of the CDI LED strobes firing at the same time where the CDI are not after the two minute mark. The reason for the lower amp draw. on the CDI strobes.
