Thank you William. I got the email today and decided that I will not buy any more of these . The mortality rate is unacceptable and overall quality is poor at best. That is my opinion and I can substantiate it. I think most of the CCers have heard my rant about the Darryl strobes and don't want to hear more.

Regardless, thank you William for posting the link.

The CDI strobe is good stuff. It is LED though. I don't believe that pre-charging them to "invoke randomness" harms them.

CDI also sells an "incadescent" (as Paul calls it) xenon strobe. I bought some on this years presale, haven't had a chance to test them yet.

They are rated at 6 watts , 130 flashes per minute and cost $ 3.95 ea in qty 10

I'll compare them to the CLS, CDI LED versions and make a new post as soon as I have a chance.

Had already planned to use them in my 4th July display this year as a good test in humid weather.

Last year for the 4th I used a mix of the CDI LEDs and the CLS xenon strobes. Had more of the CLS strobes die!

Between the past few 4th July, Halloween and Christmas seasons, I possibly have lost close to 50 of the Chrismas Light Show strobes.

Like Al, I refuse to buy anymore of them.

I need more strobes for the new location this year.

I would love to see the CDI incandescent strobes vs CLS strobes.

I'll bring all three to the convention this year.

I'll also try to do a short video and post.

Right now I'm working on getting the Memorial Day display ready

    Don,

I don't think Paul has them on his website yet.

These were a new item on this years presale from back in January, and I only got my shipment last week. I'm sure once Paul gets all the presale orders shipped out to everyone, he'll get around to updating his website.

As of last week, when I had already received my order, Annalisa (Crazy Light Lady) still hadn't received even a shipping notice on her stuff from Paul.

John throw a couple into the refrigerator and cycle them on and off over night. The cooling cycle should be about 10 minutes or so. The lowered temperatures increases the humidity in the air. My outhouse theory is that the intense heat from the xenon element heats up the air inside the enclosure causing a vacuum inside the casing when the strobe cools thus pulling in very humid air. As the air inside further cools the humidity becomes condensation. This is my outhouse opinion and I'm sticking to it.

It would be funny to see your refrigerator flashing all night.

Pity that poor little guy that lives in there, you know, the one that turns the light on when you open the door and turns the light off when you close the door. I like that little guy, he is my friend and he does work hard!

He would go bonkers with a strobe flashing on and off with the door closed.

Maybe after I get my Memorial Day display up I'll have a chance to get around to the strobe testing

If that CDI xenon strobe is as well made as the CDI LED strobe, I believe there will not be a condensation problem. The CDI LED strobe was very well sealed. The steel base was filled with potting compound and the housing was sealed with an O-ring. Both of those features would provide an air tight seal. The bases on the CLS strobes often break free from the enclosure--just plain junk. Oh please, don't get me started on how a percentage never worked out of the box. The standard reply from people that bought the CLS strobes was, "Oh they're cheap and Darryl replaces the bad strobes". Yeah right.

Darryl did replace the one bad strobe (out of 10) that didn't work on arrival. But I lost two more during the month and was down to 7 when packed away. I am curious that if the CLS strobes are getting wet inside, then they could also be degrading during storage. I wonder how many will work when I dig them out for this year ...
