As of last week, when I had already received my order, Annalisa (Crazy Light Lady) still hadn't received even a shipping notice on her stuff from Paul.
Wow - didn't realize I forgot to put them on the web site. Here you go:

I would like 5 incandescent strobes if someone local wants to do a group buy. Looks like they are only available in groups of 10. I would organize it but I'm swamped at work this week.

Denny, I want to buy some but want the tests performed first. If Paul wants to donate 2 for testing, I will personally put them through the condensation tests and post the test results. I really like the CDI LED strobe design. However, I think I prefer the xenon's off angle drama.

I don't call $ 6.00 plus cheap for that high of an in season failure rate. I only paid about $3.50 each for the CDI LEDS strobes last year and only $3.95 each for the CDI xenon strobes this year. CLS is almost double that amount!

Edit: Don't forget to use the CDI discount code, price is only $ 4.73 each. While more then I paid, still one heck of a bargain!

    Denny,

In my opinion, you will need more then 5. Think about it, in one month you lost 30% of your inventory last year. Plus like you mentioned in your previous post #15, if the others were put away with moisture trapped in them, how many of the 7 remaining CLS strobes will work initially, and how many more will fail shortly after the display goes up.

I probably have 40 or 50 strobes in inventory. May only use 25 to 30 in my display, but I expect them to work. If some of them die, I can quickly pull a replacement off the shelf and keep the display looking the way I want it to. Almost everything in my display I have back up strings or props ready to be put in service.

For example, the Mighty Mini floods, I only expect to use 6 for my house, but I built 8 to have 2 spares.

My first year animating, I had 96 channels, ( 6 controllers) with every channel allocated. I lost one full controller during the season, and a couple of channels on another board. Sure LOR would repair them free, but to keep my display up I ordered 2 more controllers (paid a premium price for shipping plus full retail for the controllers) then sent the broken ones in for repair. Now I almost always plan on leaving a channel or two open on each board for emergency swapping, and keep at least one 16 channel board on the shelf ready to be swapped out if necessay.

My motto is "Extra inventory is good". Just my opinion and the way that I think about this stuff.

    Al,

Where is your spirit of adventure ? I've been buying from Paul at CDI for several years, and trust that he does not sell junk. I have been very pleased with all my purchases from Paul (yea, even the 2008 fiasco, I made them work for the season, and Paul replaced them after the season was over)

When Paul offered the LED strobes last year, I bought them sight unseen and without reading any reviews or tests on them, and I'm very pleased with the product.

When Paul offered the xenon versions this year, I jumped at the opportunity to buy them. My thought was, they can't be any worse then the CLS stuff, and at only 60% of the price of the CLS, even if they suffer the same failure rate (which I doubt they will), then I'm out a whole lot less money then if I had bought more of the expensive CLS strobes (which I know are going to die).

I'll start testing mine after I finish with my Memorial Day display (it doesn't use strobes but will use the Mighty Minis) Got to keep my priorities in order here.

I would love to see CDI's xenon strobes. CLS' are getting to expensive to lose.

I agree William. I bought the CLS strobes out the yazoo for three years because I knew I would have at least a 50% or higher failure rate (using them 4th July, Halloween and Christmas) each year, that when Paul offered the LEDs for $ 3.50 I jumped at that last year. And the same with his xenon strobes this year at only $ 3.95. I'll try to shoot some video William, but I know my camera will probably go bonkers with the pulsating light flashes.

Al, I would send you a couple of mine to test, but $7.40 for a flat rate rate box is almost as much as I paid for the 2 strobes.

Plus, I bought 'em, will use them, and don't care if I have a couple of failures. Anything can fail. I'm still money ahead. Just part of the cost of doing a display in my opinion

I just bought 10 of them.

I shoot some video of them in HD.

I'll place the CLS, CDI's LED and Xenon all together and let the viewers be the judge.

It's hard to reply because I keep swatting at William's bug on the screen ..

I only use strobes for one effect. They are suspended inside my mega-tree on three different wires, and staggered to be spread around. They are only wired to one channel. And that's all I want to do with the strobes. Even the 6 or 7 was OK at the end of the season, so if I mix in 5 more I will be more than happy.
