    Default Energy Star Appliance rebate

If you have not heard yet, you can get a 15% discount on Energy Star appliance through Sunday April 25, 2010 or (until the program runs out of funds) if you are an NC resident. In addition to that, stores are offering additional discounts. I bought a new refrigerator today and got it at about 55% of retail cost at Lowe's thanks to discounts and rebates (including free delivery and haulaway of old appliances). Here are a couple places offering discounts.

Lowes: 10-19% depending on the item.
Best Buy is giving 15% off all Energy Star in addition to the state rebate
Sears 30% (even though when you do the math on some of the deals, Best Buy's prices are still better because Sears is giving 30% off a higher starting price)
    Home Depot 10%
    HH Gregg 10-15%

Note: April 22-25 (or whenever they run out of money)
    Flat 15% rebate
It only applies to Energy Star qualified appliances though. It must be in a store (brick and mortar) and NOT over the internet.

Great. At 1pm today 45% of the money allocated for the government rebate was still available.

I'm hoping that some of the money is still available after this weekend. Why, you ask? Because if there is some left, the state will have a rebate program in June for Water Heaters - I'm looking to get one of those "on demand" gas ones to replace the big round one that can leak.

I'm installing a new furnace and AC system then too. I want to personally thank all of Yall for helping me buy my great, big refrigerator, furnace, and AC units. Your tax dollars looks mighty fine in my kitchen and basement. Not to mention the new windows. I wouldn't have done it without Yall's tax dollars. Thank you.

If you aren't mad you should be.

Alrighty John, you are free to use Mark's and my refrigerators, and William's clothes washer because you helped pay for them. Please call before you come. The rest of Yall need to get in line and call ahead. William's clothes dryer is off limits.

Ok thanks, Al, William and Mark.

I'm trying to change my Sunday afternoon flight from Las Vegas to Winston Salem. I'll let William know what time to pick me up at the airport. If I wash my dirty clothes Sunday evening, then I can hang them up on the clothes-line in William's backyard and they will be dry by Monday morning.

Once again, thanks to all of you for the use of your (and mine) new appliances

    You're welcomed John!

But... the old clothes line is MIA. So, we'll have to tie a rope between two trees.

Good news. The rebate program ended with $1M of money is surplus. Maybe I will get to buy that new furnace in June.

Huh? I didn't know Light-O-Rama was selling furnaces during their June sale. Or is that Al-O-Rama doing that?

Denny, I appreciate the hard work your heirs will need to do to allow me to get a new furnace and AC unit. I've already thanked my son for his help in buying me a new refrigerator. He wasn't too happy about it. He really ain't going to like my new furnace and AC.

In a neighborhood in mid/south Raleigh, the local givermint is putting in 5 million dollars of storm water control for this certain, small neighborhood. A few homes were being flooded quite regularly due to many factors mostly growth. It would have been cheaper for the local givermint to buy the houses that were in danger and make a little pond there than to put in this LA style concrete culvert. They did it because the mega givermint gave them stimulus money. It doesn't matter that buying the houses would have been a far better solution for everybody involved. The small number of homeowners were tired of getting their houses flooded and really couldn't sell them. Thank you heirs for that concrete fiasco too.
