Gotta ask - is that a decent product and a good price? Seems like it is a good price, just not sure about the product. Thoughts from those in the know? Are those bulbs going to use more power than a single channel can hold? Are there other questions I should be asking but don't know to ask (and the requisite answers...)?

    Scott,

It's a decent price. As for power requirements, it's a 50 count string of mini's. Even if it's a "Super Bright" lights, it shouldn't pull more than 340 mA, or .34 Amps. That's actually the normal current for a 100 count string, so you're way over. As for if they will run on a single channel - that's all depending on what controller is running that channel. Any of the commercial controllers (LOR, AL, D-light) should handle that without a problem.

AL has his own commercial controllers now? Awesome!!

So can I put 5 of these on the same channel for your average basic LOR controller? Or is the power requirements more about the feed coming into the controller box?

Actually, you could put up to 23 stars per channel with the Light-o-rama PC series. 8 Amps/0.340 Amps= 23 stars on a channel. The PC controllers can handle 15 amps per bank (2 banks per controller) with a maximum of 8 amps per channel. The Showtime controllers are 20 amps per bank with 8 amps per bank max. The DIY stuff (Lynx Express being one) is less robust with 4 amps per channel for the LE. Note that the specs I just stated are for triacs with heatsinks.

I guess what makes the lamps brighter are they drawn a little more current.

Scott, AL refers to Animated Lighting, a company in Kansas City that makes commercial light controllers. While not as popular as LOR, many of us that started early in this "light thing" used AL equipment, or some variation, since if you go waaaay back, the guy that developed the "Dasher" line of controllers in his garage eventually got hired by AL. AL equipment is in use at DisneyWorld and lots of other big commercial places. I have 19 AL controllers that I use in my show, and because software like LSP talk to AL controllers, as well as LOR and DMX and other DIY stuff, I can mix and match.

Now, don't you get Al thinking that he's someone special or anything like that - we wouldn't want him getting a big head...

Where's the dashes? I may design my own boards in the future. The schematic design is relatively simple but the PIC code is somewhat more complicated.
