    I have this one:
Amazon.com: Weller WTCPT 60 Watts/120V Temperature Controlled Soldering Station: Power & Hand Tools

Some people like temperature control but I used a non-temperature controlled for almost 25 years and find it just fine (geez, I sound like my father). If I want to decrease the heat to a joint, I put in a smaller tip which decreases the heat flow but leaves the tip at a known temperature.

Weller is an old and excellent name in soldering irons. It is easy to put on a smaller tip to decrease heat transfer but impossible to get more heat transfer from an undersized iron. So, get an iron with a higher wattage rating and life will be good. Get a couple different tips. I use a chisel point and I have a really long tip for doing the fine work. Maybe we will have a soldering class at a meeting sometime.

Thanks for the info Al, a soldering class would be great! I have done a little soldering but most of the time with no success. I suppose it could be the el cheapo gun I have or the el cheapo solder or probably both! LOL I think I need to invest in a good one and learn how to use it, especially now that I have 9 controllers.

If Walter was closer I would just let him do it!

Like anything else, soldering works better if you have the right tools. If someone shows you how to use those fancy tools, life gets a lot better. Walter and I have spent quite a bit of time soldering together. He is pretty good at it. You can be too with some practice. The US Army sent me to soldering class that lasted an entire week. We did more than just simple soldering irons and stuff but it lasted almost a week. Great class that has served me well a good portion of my life.

Al gave a soldering class last year during one of the TASL meetings. This is probably a good item to repeat this year...
    Thanks,

That looks like a good price for that iron. I hope I don't have to solder to much Walter and I need to learn. But push come to shove we could probably work something out. I got a buddy in the next town thats real good soldering, i'm sure he could do it if I needed it done.
