Default Costco KLH rock outdoor speakers

I was at Costco today and 2 each KLH outdoor rock speakers were $79. And the package had 125 of speaker wire. I'm not sure how good of speaker wire that is because I spent that much on speaker wire alone last year. Anyway, they are supposedly capable of handling 100 watts of audio power. I might buy me some.

I got 2 125 watt rock speakers on ebay for $50 with free shipping. Didnt include the speaker wire but the sound is great on them. If you have the wire check out ebay for them They are listed for $59 but you can make a lower offer.

I bought wire for my 4 speakers a couple years ago and almost said to heck with it. My speakers are a long way from the house and the wire was almost $100. Ouch.

I found the guy Kidaire mentioned on eBay and offered $30 for the regular outdoor speakers (I can hide them easily)... But has anyone tried a wireless speaker system?

We have two Mikes in this thread. Mike P and Kildare. Mike (Kildare), I think with the wireless modules you still have to furnish power to them or change batteries. If you have to put power to it then why not just run speaker cables? My philosophy is to keep it as perfectly simple as possible because the display itself will serve up all the complications you will ever expect. Besides, wireless speakers are more prone to noise than wired speakers. Certain types of transmitters like cordless phones, garage door openers, wifi, etc if placed too near, even on another frequency, can prove problematic. I quote Tarzan, "Wire good, wireless bad Cheeta" or something along those lines.

That's what I figured... I was pondering the whole wireless camera thing too and came up with the same conclusion.

I would like to have some amplified outdoor speakers but can not find anyone that makes them. I was thinking about building a waterproof enclosure to put the regular amplified speakers in.

Larry, I looked into water resistant, amplified speakers and found nothing too. I thought I would put an old amp in a box outside too, but then I bought the high priced, 12AWG speaker wire and ran it from the house to the street. I thought about putting a car amp in a box and running 12V to it, but the 12V supply would have been huge. I talked to somebody a while back with a company that sold AV gear, and he said they use something like 90V systems to run sound long distances. It was way too pricey and the sound quality was bad. I think the 90V systems are used for loudspeakers like at car dealerships. If you come up with something please let us all know.

I used something very similar a few years back. 4 of them. I hooked them up with SPT2 wire. They crapped out during the season, but we had a bad winter that year. They seemed to fail one at a time. I figured the snow or something got to them even though they said there were weatherproof. So I bought a fairly inexpensive outdoor job radio to get me through the season. During tear down, I realized WHY they failed. A damn mouse eat right through the damn SPT2 cord from the reciever in the garage. Too funny. I have stayed with the job radio methdology. Less wire, only need power.

    Mike -

Set it up while the weather is decent and give it a try. You might change your mind on using that. I bought a boom box from a thrift store that seemed to be quite loud when near it in an enclosed room. Not so much outside.

I'm using a couple of 100W outdoor speakers (not rock-like, though) running off a 40 W/channel karoake amp I picked up off eBay for $30. It works well enought that my one neighbor across the street complains about how loud it is, so I only run it not quite as loud as it could be for some of the show, and depend on my FM transmitter for the entire show for the radios in any viewer's cars.

I have a small yard, though, no where the size of Al's.
