And very well picked over. I went to two of them; Sanford and Pittsboro. Both had a lot of C9/C7's incadesent. Both had c5 red LED 50 per string and c7 blue LED 50 per string, and a bunch of odds and ends.

They also had 18 gallon totes for storage, 2 for $7.

    Kerr Drugs is 33% off.

ok, I have to ask a "quick aside" here... Is there an "easy" way to know if a set of LEDs are full or half wave, besides just buying them from Paul as full waves? I'm getting stuff cheap that I can't get from Paul and instead of rewiring it all with Paul's lights, I'd like to see what kind of use I can get out of them, as is. But I don't want a bunch of 1/2 wave flashy (to some) junk that makes some people just cringe.

Ahem, so enough rambling... back to the question: Is there an "easy" way to know if a set of LEDs are full or half wave?

    Thanks!!!

    Scott,

Only if the box is marked as Full Wave or Flicker Free, and its rare they are ever found in a retail store, since they cost more.

that's what I'm afraid of. Am buying items mostly for their "structure" this year, i guess... Will then rewire with Paul's good lights...

Stopped at Lowes today. Day after Christmas - still at 60% off. Most stuff is picked over, but there are a few LED items from Gemmy on the shelf. If they would go to 75%, I'd take 4 of the $100 items off their hands.

New location - new display. Looking forward to 2015 season!

As of yesterday, Target in Apex still had a good selection of lights (all things considered..). Got 10 boxes of incandescent icicles for $3.50/ box. Cannot WAIT to dump the WallyWorld lights... LED's are still ridiculous, despite Target's discount, though. $12/ box regular price. All Christmas items were 50% off, lights included.

The Walmart at Tryon Road and Kildaire Farms Road in Cary has their C7 and C9 LED 25 bulb sets for $3.49 per set. They had mostly C9 - the sets were clear, red, blue and multi. I plugged them in and they flickered (unfortunately). This Walmart had TONS of 100 bulb incandescent sets for $1.24 each. In white wire I saw Red, Blue, Pink and Multi. Tons of Red and Blue. In Green wire they had red, blue, multi, and (I think) clear.

Alright, I'm willing to show my stupidity. Can someone describe the differences between half and full wave? 1/2 wave appear to flicker and are non-dimable?

Short answer: Yes, that's exactly right. They flicker to some people, not everyone.

Long answer: John? Al? Denny? Others...?

What happens if you try to dim them.....destruction? Collapse of the universe? or even worse?

Most half-waves can be dimmed - some better then others - but quite often a "snubber" or resistive load needs to be added to the string for proper dimming. (I have seen some LEDs that could not be dimmed, they died instead)

Ollie's in Cary was 50% off Christmas stuff. They have/had c7 and c9 replacement LED bulbs. I don't know if they dim but the cost was pretty good.I believe they were 12 for $7. They also had LED strings but I refuse to buy any LEDs unless I know for certain they are full-wave rectified.
