Default Check this RGB curtain out...

This is a new RGB curtain still in the prototype stage. There is a post over on PC about it.

That is neat. The cost will be prohibitive for production. Outdoor rated RGB LEDs are too expensive for residential displays. I looked into this a year ago and couldn't believe the costs even with huge quantities. A controller for something like this would be expensive too. So, I wouldn't hold my breath as to this being mainstream until China manufactures an RGB, weatherproof LED with sufficient brightness for well under a dollar each. It might be 5 years before that happens but it is coming. The "cost revolution" in LEDs didn't happen as predicted due to world economics this year. China was hit very hard by the world downturn. As a matter of fact, China had to layoff a great deal of the 13+ year old workers. The 12 year old and under are carrying the load for the time being.

After I read this post I got to doing some searching. The leds with their individual micro controllers at best are 2 bucks each in bulk. Then your going to have to purchase the main controller, plus software.
He says $900 for the small one, with controller. If the leds are 2 bucks a piece, then that is only 450 leds, Not sure, but I don't think that 450 leds is going to make much of a curtain and this figure excludes the controller cost.
At any rate if he can sell me a 6.5 x 10 curtain and controller for 900, I'm interested, but I'm betting his price goes up before this is all over.

A DIY unit would be an awesome project, but you would need to get into a group buy thing.

This looks like the manufacturers website:

Looks like he sells on Ebat too.

This thing isn't going to do video very well.

I like the MegaTree this guy in New Zealand built. 2000 RGB LEDs controlled by 6000 DMX channels.

For video (if I really wanted to do it), I think I would rather use Galaxia, since their software is a little more mature and they now offer the RGB light strings with 99 LEDs
