Default RenardESP - E1.31 wireless control for Renard controllers

Has anyone seen or tried building/using one of these?

I bought 3 of the ESPPixelSticks; it took me a bit to figure out how to use the compiler, but after that, it was easy.

I then blew up one of them definitely, and probably damaged a second. They are not over-voltage tolerant and stupid me was thinking that the output of that phone charger was better regulated to 5 volts than it actually was; and that the switch selectable output on another small power supply wouldn't actually do much above the 12 volts (that's the maybe damaged one)

I got 3 more and haven't put them together yet. I now have fully regulated supplies. What little range testing I did before blowing up the first two seemed to be pretty good, but I haven't done any "production" testing yet. I'm hoping to be able to use them for some roof-mounted pixel-based floods and a few other effects not yet fully envisioned.

No experience with the other device, but looks to be worth reading more about.

Does anyone have experience with the RenardESP solution?
    The Mind of Bill Porter

It seems like a cool way to get E1.31 via WiFi to your controller, but my concern is it being in the 2.4Ghz band
and all the WiFi contention with houses near by.

    Thoughts, anyone????

Some of the newer designs are more resistant to the frequency conflicts. But I have no experience with this one. It looks quite nice. I am curious if there are users on DIYC that might give you some tips ? They might also discuss any conflicts they might have seen ..

There are hints of upcoming group buys for these over on DIYC. I'd like some of the RS485 chip replacement units, thinking that they might be able to be used inside LOR units running in DMX mode. What I read, I think it may be able to be used for that.

I may luck out; it sounds like he may have some partial kits available. My biggest concern is the PCB availability, and if it has the SMD devices already mounted. I can source the rest.

Give Frank Pleshe @FrankP a call. He showed a bunch of new Renard and DMX stuff at Saturday's coffee. And some had SMTs. Frank has a heat gun for them.

    Denny,

I think we are talking two different things here. I should you the RenardESP board to use the ESP8266 wifi adapter to RS-422 direct control of renards.

Jack, I believe, is talking about the ESPixelSticks. ESPixelStick - An E1.31 WiFi Pixel Controller

That is a WiFI pixel solution that is only 1inch wide to drive a pixel string via Wifi

ESPixelStick Group Buy - E1.31 WiFi Pixel Controller kit - Page 16

The ESPixelStick has SM parts (which come from the factory) and some through hole parts in the BOM.

Correct on both counts. I have several of the PSBixelStix, mostly yet to be assembled (great for 4 universes).

I'm also trying to buy some partial kits for the wire replacement for Renard controllers. He has no full kits left, but has some boards and some random parts he's indicated he's willing to send me.

Ah OK. It's nice that the pixel stick comes with the SM parts already soldered.

Who has extra boards for sale? I would like to get a couple to test.

    Thanks!
