Default Renard -- RS485 to RJ-45 adapter wiring

I need help understanding how to correctly wire my USB to RS-485 adapter to a DB9--RJ-45 adapter so that I can use straight through CAT5 cables to my Renard SS controllers.

I have read the following reference page for Renard data cables:
    Renard Data Cables - doityourselfchristmas.com

Can someone please verify that I just need to do the following:

    1. pin 1&2 from the RJ-45 are tied together and connected to pin 5 on the DB9.
    2. pin 4 on RJ45 connects to pin 1 on DB9
    3. pin 5 on RJ45 connects to pin 2 on DB9

    Thanks in advance.

    Frank

I am not a Renard guy but it looks to me like you have it right. You only need to make one crossover cable to adapt the DMX standard wiring to the Renards standard. Then you just use straight through cables after the first one.

    Frank -

Which Renard board are you referring to? If possible, I'd stay away from the DB-9 unless you're running RS-232 from your signal source (Computer?) to the first controller.

I run both LOR and Renard, with the Renard in DMX mode. I haven't used them in Renard protocol and RS-232. But those pin outs should work.

    Hi Jack,

I am talking about the SS8, SS16 and SS24 boards.

The adapter/cable that I have is USB to RS-485 (9pin) (link above) - came with Rs-485 breakout.

I want to take the 9pins off that and go directly RJ-45 to the RENARDS.

It seems to be the consensus that my understanding of the wiring diagram is correct.

    Thanks!

    Frank

    Frank -

Assuming that the RS-485 9 pin connections are the same as the RS-232 pin outs, yes, that should work.

Just don't wait until the last minute to verify that. Until I went to that link, I didn't realize they were using the DB9 connectors for RS-422, and I don't see pinning info in that link.

I wish that I would have found this adapter before purchasing the USB/Serial RS-485 adapter that I did.

Renard Plus Holiday Controllers - USB to RS485 Dongle

    Oh well...

He's got some neat stuff for Renard folks. But it's not for the average guy. You have to be quite technical including flashing the eeproms, etc.
