    Default E6804 > DMX512 > LOR CTB16

I have configured my e6804 to output DMX (univ 1, start 1) on port 2. I have wired clk to pin 5 (data -), and data to pin 4 (data +) of an RJ45 which plugs into my LOR CTB16d (firmware 4.4, unit 1). As far as I can tell, that should be all the configuration necessary to get the box to work on DMX, but I get no blinky-flashy. Since it is unit 1, DMX channels 1-16 should control outputs 1-16. I have connected via 485 and confirmed unit id and box function. The goal is to drive my pumpkin head prop (110v minis) from a Raspberry Pi for a portable show (ie no "computer" needed). I'm really not keen to have 2 network wires tracing out of my camper to drive the show.

I don't have anyway to debug a dmx network (no other dmx devices) nor do I have any other DMX 512 controllers to test if the LOR is responding to DMX. I have connected the LOR to a 485 to confirm the unit id and proper operation. What can I do? Or what might I have missed?

@Shanta .. Did you set up your network preferences so the LOR software knows the DMX Universe 1 is enabled ? Right click on the light bulb in your tray and select Network Preferences. There is an IP address that LOR uses for outputting DMX, and I think it uses this same address for everything. Here's what mine looks like:

No, I've only been doing lower-level tests so far, from the SanDevices config screen. I also tried from XLights. But have not bothered trying to configure a sequencer to use it, seems pointless since it's just adding another layer of complexity where something can get screwed up. I'd be using LSP, though anyhow, since I only have the basic level of S3 (no DMX). I'm going to try swapping ports (pixels are working fine on port 1). If that doesn't work I may try reversing the data lines, someone told me it wouldn't hurt anything to do so.

Oopps .. I was thinking LOR not LSP. On the E682, only the first channel has the RS485 amp on it for driving a DMX network. The rest would need your own amp on the output. Perhaps the documentation for the E684 shows whether they included the DMX amp or not ..

Hmmm... I read the whole manual for the e6804 and don't remember any mention of a DMX "amp". Never really heard that term before. Time to review, or maybe just swap the ports. Thanks for the heads up.

It's more than likely called a "line driver", rather than an amp, but it basically does the same thing.

On most of the newer SanDevices devices, the "balanced line drivers" are on only on output 1 of each cluster, I believe. On the E6804, that would be only the first output, and not the other 3.

    Glad you got it working!

It was pretty confusing that the manual says any of the four ports can output any of the protocols. Just not at practicable levels? Oh well, working now and I'm thrilled. Should get the Pi tomorrow, so time to add another layer of complexity!

Any of the 4 outputs can be configured for DMX. The balanced signal is derived from 2 output pins of the CPU, there is no specific line driver IC.
