    Default OFFICIAL TASL Meeting August 13, 2016 9am till 5pm <Details in Post #1>

uAnnouncing the FINAL meeting in 2016 for the Triangle Area Synchronized Lighting <TASL> group.

    Date and Time: Saturday August 13, 2016 9am - 5pm

    Place: Swift Creek Community Center
    6221 Yates Mill Pond Rd
    Raleigh NC, 27606

The agenda will be growing and changing so check back often. Also feel free to send your suggestions. We want to plan a mix of topics covering the basics for our newer members, as well as pixel related topics and other common interest topics.

@Jack Stevens is planning to run a live feed for the meeting. Typically we use the location name TASL RDU in Google. We will post more details here if this changes by the time of the meeting. Remote participants:

    1. @James van Horn
    2. ??
    3. ??

    Agenda items for Aug 13th:

8:00 - 9:00am Setup and socializing. Come early for meet and greet. Bring your items to share/display.
    • PLEASE EVERYONE try to arrive by 9am !

9:00 - 9:30am INTRODUCTIONS - Meet new members and what they are doing with their displays.

9:30 - 10:30am What New Plans do we have for 2016! This is when we all discuss the coming Halloween and Christmas, and our new plans. This is a good time to ask the group to critique a new design and provide any new ideas or suggestions that could help you. There enough time for at least 10 people. Since most everything is custom built, we all learn from this discussion.

10:30 - Noon Split Session - - Divide into two sections of the room. Beginners towards the kitchen side, advanced towards opposite side.[INDENT]
    • Best Practices for Beginners
      • No signups, so we won't bother with a separate beginner session.
      • We can also schedule followup training sessions for various software.
    • Advanced FPP/xLights Topic
      • Kevin Smith xLights and FPP demo and discussion.
      • Joe Tripp - Can you bring a BBB and working sign ?

NOON - 1:00pm Pot Luck LUNCH (everyone bring something to share). Check the list to pick a good mix of foods, and PLEASE POST what you will bring.

1:00 - 2:00pm Share your past projects. Bring something to display and/or demo. Please message me with your item(s) for this list.

    • Denny - Lynx Express 16 Channel DMX Controllers
    • OTHERS - - let me know what you will bring to share. We can always use more FPP effects !
    • Person - Project
    • Person - Project

2:00 - 3:00pm Designing, building and running large sphere effects - @Don Williams

    3:00 - 4:00pm DIY DMX and Pixel Gadgets - @Frank Pleshe

    4:00 - 4:15pm TASL Business - Open TASL Discussion - Denny

    • Discuss how many meetings we want for 2017 (2 or 3), and what months.
    • Bank Balance Report
    • Are we ready to set one or more dates for a group workshop ?
    • Do we want any training classes this year, and for which software/hardware are you looking for training.

4:15 - 5pm Pack Up, Fold the Chairs and Tables, Sweep the floor

I will arrive to open the hall between 8:00am and 8:15am for unloading and setup. We'll use the first hour to mingle and get set up. Swing in early for coffee .. Introductions starting 9:00am and Presentations will begin by 9:30am. We need to end the formal presentations around 4:15pm to begin teardown, and cleanup the hall. By the rules of our rental agreement we need to leave by 5pm. Many times they have another renter coming in after 5pm.

This is a POT LUCK LUNCH meeting. Please let us know what you will bring to share. Be sure to check what others are bringing so we can get a range of main dishes, side dishes and deserts. I can supply a Keurig machine to make coffee. And I can bring some K-cups. We could use a volunteer to bring cups and creamer. Also breakfast snacks are nice to have.

Be sure to bring your own drinks for the day. There is plenty of room for coolers and a full refrigerator in the kitchen. The kitchen also has a full size stove with oven and a large microwave. There's lots time for baking or reheating before lunch !

This meeting is open to ANYONE who would like to participate, or just listen in for their first time. It is a good time for new members to sign up to be a TASL member for 2016. But you do not have to be a TASL member to attend a TASL meeting. If you are thinking about creating your first holiday show with synchronized lights and music, you can join a TASL meeting to learn more about how its done. Come on out and join us! If you are bringing friends or other family members, please make sure you post their names when you acknowledge your attendance.

We always have tables available for an informal Christmas Garage sale throughout the day. Bring cash if you are looking for deals. Bring your items to sell or trade. There are always some real nice deals and giveaways !

@kidcole - I can, if someone helps me make the bridge to advanced outside the meeting. Hard to make the switch when I'm just doing basics...

@kidcole, Charity and I are very likely to be there. What type of food would you like? I'm open to suggestions, or rather, I should say Charity is. She likes cooking for a fair-size crowd. Me, I'm fine with sandwich makin's.

Great, I look forward to seeing the two of you. Please also let me know if you are going to do the live video cast again. I suppose we should also find out if anyone is going to use it too !

As for the food, let's watch the list and see what people are bringing. Then you can decide what fits in best.

    EVERYONE - - Signup seems to be slow this time ! C'mon gang .. who's coming ??

Got it. Be sure to check back and let us know what you are bringing for the pot luck lunch. I post what everyone is bringing, so we can try to avoid duplicates. See post number 1.

I'll be there. Not sure what I'm bringing for food yet, either a desert of sorts or a pasta salad. As for a display item to show off, that's a surprise.

Charity said she's making a Key Lime Cake for this.

I'll do the video; I'll have to figure out how to do it somewhat differently, since the camera driver I was using blocked an update to something I needed for work. I may have to use a standard wired USB cam.

Also, since Facebook now allows live streaming, I may do it with that. need to test to see if I can stream to multiple services - FB, google, and UStream?

    Denny -

Food: I'll bring some assorted fruit that can be eaten with the meal or as snacks in between.

Beginners: Happy to do so, as long as someone teaches me the new stuff sometime outside the meeting. Otherwise, I'll never move forward!

Broadcast: I can broadcast if Jack can't. Just need to know ahead of time again.

So far there is nobody asking for a beginner course. And if we only have one or two, I could break those off and set up a coffee shop meeting. Also still working on the advanced topic for the morning.
