Default TASL Organization Meeting - Date Planning

For new members who are not familiar with TASL, it stands for Triangle Area Synchronized Lighting. The name was created by some of the first dozen or so members. Al in Raleigh has inspired the vision of the club and has personally funded it from the start. TASL always wanted to grow as the model for other local clubs, so they could follow and evolve in a similar way - - and to drive growth of Holiday displays with sequenced lights and music. And a key part of that "model" has always been to come together as members of ChristmasCarolina.com, our formal website where we create and share ideas, successes, and failures. Having a strong local club can really help any area expand their membership, and having a large common website gives a wide set of perspectives to share our hobby.

We have informally held TASL meetings for almost 4 years, and now it is time to make TASL a more formal group. I want to call an organization meeting so we can determine how the group wants this club to run. This is a very big step in the evolution of any independent club and I believe we are ready.

Here are 13 different candidate dates for this meeting (we only need to agree on one):
    - - - - - Weekday evenings at 7pm and day Oct 1 - 5 or Oct 8 - 12.
    - - - - - Sat Oct 6th 6pm, Sat Oct 13th noon, or Sat Oct 13th 6pm.

In the meeting I hope we can accomplish some high level goals. Then over the next 6 months (or so) we can create formal written rules to begin to run as a real club. Here are a few things I want to accomplish and I am sure there are others for the list that many of you will also want to discuss:

    1. decide how we want to mange the membership, and define some leadership positions to help drive the club
    2. decide how we want to run our meetings (volunteer houses, rental halls, coffee shops, etc)
    3. decide how we want to fund the club, including managing the finances, tax status, etc
    4. discuss exclusivity issues for the long term, such as building the library (discussed over the past year), training, volunteering, etc
    5. discuss other longer term plans such as Club Assets (spare controllers, transmitters, etc) that have been informally managed for a couple years

I am sure this is not the whole list but it's a good start for the things on my mind. Please start to write down your thoughts as you read this and as you prepare to meet.

PLEASE reply to this post with several "bits" of information
    - - if you wish to be a member of a more formalized TASL
    - - if you will participate in the organization meeting
    - - list as many of the proposed date/times as you could attend for the organization meeting. We will pick the one that gets the most attendance.

I live in Cary and I could host the meeting. But a more central location might be somewhere in Raleigh. We used to meet in coffee shops, but if this meeting gets any larger than about 12, we probably won't fit in a coffee shop.

My employer has my immediate future in their hands; after October 6 I may be told to fly across the country to Oregon for an indeterminite amount of time.

If I'm not across the country, Charity and I have Lions Club plans for October 13 and 27. Other than that, I think we're open.

    Denny,
the best thing for me is to know when the meeting is and i will try to be there. I work almost every night so it would be very hard for yall to work around me.

On second thought of seeing the 6pm start time, I think I could do that. My plans for the 6th can only be done during the daylight hours.

That works great. I have a busy day that day myself .. We're having a marine yard sale at the lake from 10am to 2pm, then I coach a soccer game from 3:45 to 5pm .. then I will head to wherever we decide to have this meeting.

EVERYONE, let's all look seriously at holding this meeting on OCT 6th at 6pm .. Location candidate is the same place we met for years - - the Starbucks on Lake Boone Trail - it's right off the exit of the Raleigh beltline only about 1 half mile from I40. Is that a good central spot ?

As part of this meeting we need to also make sure that we want to keep the rental hall for the TASL fall meeting on Oct 18th. We need to cover the $50 rental fee...
    Thanks,
