Default April 21, 2012 TASL Saturday meeting thread.

This is the thread for the April 21, 2012 TASL meeting ONLY.

The Triangle Area Synchronized Lighting (TASL) Group is meeting. This is our second of four meetings in 2012.

Date and Time: April 21, 2012 9am-5pm with lunch at noon.

    Place: Swift Creek Community Center
    6221 Yates Mill Pond Rd
    Raleigh NC, 27606

Why would you want to attend: Basically, if you want to learn more about Christmas lighting and meet people in the Triangle area with displays then you should attend. If you want to ask lots of questions then this weeknight meeting is a better time than a weekend which is more formal with presenters. The more meetings you attend the better your display will become. TASL meetings are not webcast.

Who may attend: The simple answer is anyone. TASL currently has no dues and welcomes everyone. Our goal is to advance Christmas lighting in the Triangle Area. We believe strongly in teaching, sharing, and socializing. We welcome all for our meetings but plan events mainly for the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) area of North Carolina. Regardless, if you like Christmas lights then you are welcome.

Costs: Since TASL doesn't have dues (currently), so we usually pass the hat to cover the facility costs of $100 for the weekend meeting area.

Schedule of presenters/presentations: The weekend meetings are more formal training sessions than the weeknight meetings. We usually have excellent presenters on several topics.
    1) Mike P. is going to show us how he built his wonderful portable power panel.
    2) Nancy will show us how she got an Enttec Pro DMX dongle to talk with S3 and a DMX floodlight. Nancy touched on it at the last meeting but her presentation will be more specific.
    3) Pixel nodes and how to implement them. This subject continues to be a hot topic, and we will have formal training on this subject. Presenters are Mark and Al.
    4) S3 software. Denny will show us some new tricks.
    5) E681 E1.31 Bridge. This is a hot subject. Mark will present.
    6) How to make awesome videos. Mel Welch is going to show us how he did his video with tips and tricks. This has been postponed to later in the year. Mel couldn't make this meeting.
    7) Fabricating with PVC and Mounting with Rebar. Denny will present PVC ideas i.r. borders, permanent mounts for icicles, blowmold mounts, pinwheels, mini trees, bases for stars, benefits of using rebar for mounting.
    8) Methods in making a megatree. Walter will present

More presentations will be listed in the future and so the list will change. Several people have expressed interest but I want to confirm before committing them.

Lunch: Pot luck lunch. In other words bring a dish to share with the group. We will have a sign up sheet for food closer to the event.

Persons to contact for more information: Al in Raleigh, Jack Stevens, Charity, kidcole (Denny), walter, scottmcl. Any person on this list will be able to answer almost any question.

Mel we talked once about you doing a class on video editing and how you made your awesome videos. Would you do a presentation on that? You certainly have mastered it.
    Thanks,

Melissa made "Oreo Ball" cookies last night. She got kidded about the name. A person has to have a sense of humor to hang around our crowd.

Charity and I will be there for the first part of this.

It's the same day as a major fund raiser for the Lions Club we belong to. Partially food based; you know who has to help out with some of that.

Deb will fix her up. Cary Mall is about 5-10 minutes away. We usually have some other stuff that keeps us all awake.

I know of a few pay by the hour ones. I'm sure Shannon would not mind the extra "perks" that come along with them.

I'm going to try to make it. But 9pm to 5pm? Does it go on all night and through most of the next day? Whew that's a long meeting. jk
