Default Feb 29th TASL meeting thread.

This is the thread for the Feb 29th TASL meeting ONLY.

The Triangle Area Synchronized Lighting (TASL) Group is meeting. This is our first of four meetings in 2012.

Date and Time: February 29, 2012 (Wednesday) 5pm-10pm with dinner at 6:30pm

    Place: Swift Creek Community Center
    6221 Yates Mill Pond Rd
    Raleigh NC, 27606

Why would you want to attend: Basically, if you want to learn more about Christmas lighting and meet people in the Triangle area with displays then you should attend. If you want to ask lots of questions then this weeknight meeting is a better time than a weekend which is more formal with presenters. TASL meetings are not webcast.

Who may attend: The simple answer is anyone. TASL currently has no dues and welcomes everyone. Our goal is to advance Christmas lighting in the Triangle Area. We believe strongly in teaching, sharing, and socializing. We welcome all for our meetings but plan events mainly for the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) area of North Carolina. Regardless, if you like Christmas lights then you are welcome.

Dinner: Charity will be cooking dinner for the meeting. The cost is $7.00 and includes everything. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. Charity may tweek the menu, but currently the menu is :
    Chicken Pot Pie
    Salad
Dessert (Charity knows how to make a dessert)
Drink (iced tea or sodas if history holds true)
(other stuff she deems yummy to include)
If you want to bring something to share with the group please do.

Costs: Since TASL doesn't have dues (currently), so we usually pass the hat to cover the facility costs of $30 for the weeknight meeting area. If you want, dinner is $7 (please post below that you plan to attend so Charity can get a headcount for dinner)

Schedule of presenters/presentations: The weeknight meetings are more informal than the weekend meetings as such will have topics not on the schedule.
    1) Show and tell. Bring whatever you are proud of that you have made to share with the group during show and tell. The weeknight meetings are better geared for show and tell.
    2) New happenings with ChristmasCarolina and TASL. Maybe Rob will lead this. If not then one of the Steering Committee members will.
    3) Upcoming TASL group buys more specifically DMX floodlights and pixel nodes.
    4) A round table discussion of pixel nodes. If you want to get the basics about mounting, control, power, etc then you should attend this. We plan to have formal presentations for the April Saturday meeting, but this meeting will be more hands on.
    5) Welding workshops and what we are going to build and when.
    6) DMX floodlights. Nancy is attending this meeting, Nancy got the Enttec Pro DMX module to communicate via LOR's S2/3 to a DMX flood with which we are going to have a group buy a little later. Nancy is a smart lady. Nancy may even do a formal presentation of this at the April meeting.
    7) How to make RPM's dongle (DIY version of Enttec Pro) work with S3 (Roger and Jack)
more topics as we get closer to the date.

Persons to contact for more information:
Al in Raleigh, Jack Stevens, Charity, kidcole (Denny), walter, scottmcl. Any person on this list will be able to answer almost any question.

    Link to upcoming TASL meetings

Please post in the thread if you plan to attend. We need a headcount for dinner. We assume you want dinner unless you indicate otherwise.

You have me down twice. I would like to decline dinner for the first Denny. But the second Denny will be having dinner with the group.

Oh goody. You can tell us about your trials and tribulations of using the DMX floods. As a matter of fact, of your trials and tribulations of using the Enttec Pro in general. This wont be a presentation just a round table discussion with tons of questions. If you come to the April meeting, I would love for you to do a formal presentation on how to make them work. Many of us will benefit from that presentation especially the folks that are buying floods this year.

Awesome Roger .. We should start another thread to accumulate information on the DMX dongles that work and possibly those that don't work. There was information recently discussing the buffering provided by the Enttec Pro, so we should probably try to understand that parameter as well, in case there are different buffering levels.

Are any of the other sites also collecting the compatible DMX adapters ?

The buffering takes my thoughts to how well synchronized the whole show will be when running LOR RS485, DMX RS485 AND E1.31.

Al, perhaps you could start a DMX Adapter thread ? You could edit the master list back into the opening document, but most of the rest of us can only edit for a short time after posting.
    Thanks,

We will right after the meeting. Several sites have already done this. AusChristmas and Fasteddy are the names that I think did the best job.
