Default Input & Output Cords For Controllers

Here's the best prices I've found so far on input and output cords.

    Input: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

    Output: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Cut the end off that's not needed and presto, it's a bargin.

They even have cheap extension cords: http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10228

Don't know if shipping kills the deal.

I used them to cord up two controllers last year, using the 3 foot extension cords. They were about 3 cents a cord cheaper then when I ordered 34 of them. Shipping is about the same as getting the cords from LOR. I just priced getting 34 of the 3 foot cords with shipping - about $45. I spent about $10 for a box of connectors, which means about $26 for a set of 16 cords.

I've about come to the conclusion that unless I really need the extra length, I'll order the pre-made cables from LOR. That's after having to cut/strip back/crimp connectors onto all those cables just to save a couple of dollars, as long as I'm ordering other items to spread out the cost of shipping.

I like Monoprice, though. They have items available that cost a lot more elsewhere - HP printer ink cartridges, for example. $15 for the same black cartridge that costs me $35 at WalMart or $40 at an office supply store.

I've bought lots of stuff from Monoprice.

However, I'm beginning to believe that for the output ends, that it's easier to just buy 6 ft extension cords from HomeDepot for $1 each, cut off the plug, and use the end for each channel.

I have used, and probably will continue to use the Monoprice style cords for the input side of some of the controllers.

I'll get my input cords from them but I use spt 1 and vampire plugs for the output cords.

I'm lucky to be carrying 1/4-1/2 amp per cord.

Monoprice seems to always have reasonable prices.

And if you follow them on Facebook, you'll get notified of special sales on items. They've got a USB "extender" that works over Cat-5 that might be of interest to this group. Imagine, if you will, being able to put a USB webcam out in the yard, rather than having to keep it inside or have to buy a more expensive IP/wireless webcam to show off your display.

Or Mark... I wonder how this would work on a dongle (LOR, DMX, etc..).

That was my first thot - putting the dongle at the end. But then, I thot, isn't RS485 better to go long distances than the USB signal? So it doesn't really buy you anything, unless you want your dongle out in the yard...

Now that is a statement. That ranks up there with, "Have you ever been in a Turkish Prison".
