    Question vampire plugs?

Are all the vampire plugs out there polarized? Regular male plugs would be quite helpful since all of our lights are regular non-polarized plugs and sockets.

I took a metal file to several plugs today... does the trick, just a pain in the butt!

A bandsaw works easily. Or a hand jigsaw mounted in a vise. I used to stock these in the beginning but not knowing how many I will need .. I just started cutting my own. In a pinch I have used a wire cutter to nibble off the opposite side. It's not real pretty but can be done right there in the yard ..
    Thanks,

I'm guessing its an insurance liability issue; polarize them or open yourself up to lawsuits for selling unsafe products. Not a big deal with Christmas lights, but other devices I totally understand wanting to have the neutral (ground level potential) being the "most exposed" part of the circuit.

As a slightly more costly alternative, probably faster - and a bit safer than trying to trim a bit of excess metal with a bandsaw - put a polarized female plug on the end of whatever you're trying to extend.

Or salvage the plugs from non-working strings (both ends) - they aren't vampire plugs but you can still splice them in.

The second part of that directive applies to much more than just modifying vampire plugs.

    including:

    - vampire teeth bending over instead of piercing the wire (aka a dead cable)
    - plugging lights into the wrong channel and not finding it for a week

    and ...
