Don that is great news. There is so much stuff to learn in this hobby and having experienced people to guide us is wonderful. It is impossible for one person to know all aspects of our hobby. Having scheduled, informal, face to face meetings is a great way to socialize and learn. I had a blast at our last meeting.

WIlliam, it is about 30 meg.

    Thanks Don,

Thats a great idea with the c9's.

I went ahead and redid all my boards to separate the Comm cables and the 110v lines. Plugged my laptop into a separate outlet. I removed all the 12v relays and connected the dj lights directly to the 110v channel outputs. I have run 4 test shows with no problems(fingers crossed).

Since these motors are really small, I was wondering, would just installing c9's in parallel to where they plug into the extention cords work to help prevent flyback? LOR Channel----C9 load-----Motor

If not, I still have time to reinstall the relays (with c9's).

    Al,

Show will be starting between 9 and 9:30pm.

It would be great to see some of you there.

It's not a big show, but I'm learning and growing.

I have no one to video it for me, so anyone who could help me out I would be very grateful (buy ya a beer).

Rougemont is easy to find, Go north on hwy501 (Roxboro rd) out of Durham. Rougemont is about 14 miles out. Only 1 stoplight (Red mountain rd) Turn right, then go one block (longer country block) turn leftonto Meadow Ridge Drive, 9th house on the right. I'll have signs with arrows pointing the way at the stoplight.

    Hi Vic

Like Al said the C9 is a inexpensive MOV and is just added insurance. If you are not using a relay, I would still use the C9 before the DJ light. I have just made a rule in my display to use C9,s before any motor control device or any transformer. Since I have started doing this (for years) I have never had a problem. Hope this help.

The motor noise will still make its way into your electronics even with a c9 present. I won't go into detail about how the c9 absorbs the flyback energy but it does an adequate job but not as good as other things like MOVs.
Placing the c9 near the load on the extension cord would help some but how much I can't say.

Vic don't sweat this. You isolated the computer from the majority of the noise. For a short show have a good time with the small motors attached directly and don't sweat it. If you did this everyday for a month I would NOT connect the motor directly. If you hose a triac I'll show you how to fix it for a few dollars. At least a few dollars would cover the part cost but my time would be $500 per hour with a 4 hour minimum--travel (first class only) and lodging expenses would be extra.

Vic I will put your show on my calender and would love to see it if possible. Don't count on me taking any videos. I suck taking videos that why I haven't posted any. My videos look like a 5 year made them--a blind 5 year old.

Well, I did it last night...fried a triac! I'm putting all the DJ party lights onto relays today. Lesson learned.
Does anyone know where I can pick up some 110v relays or SSR's locally?

Vic, how did your disco party go? I was going to drive up to see the show but got caught up in other stuff here at Rancho Al. Did you blow up anything else?
