    John,
I'm definitely going to be at the Triangle meeting, and my floods will be with me, as well as some DC controllers. Hopefully we'll drum up more converts.

The enclosure that I'm using for the Mighty Mini's is a standard 150W flood available at most home centers for $10 in single qtys.

Just to add one more detail.

I've looked at the pricing of the LED's used on the Mighty Mini. Unless we can find another source of reliable 8mm StrawHat LED's than CeCe's, a bulk buy of the LEDs and other components might not be cost effective.

CeCe's will sell the LEDs in qty's of 100 for $72 or $69, depending on the color. Resistors and terminal blocks add some minor cost. But if you add up the all the costs, it comes to about $39.50 per flood BEFORE shipping to members. CeCe's price on her website for the whole kit is $39.99 with shipping included. Coleen did say she would give an extra 10% or so discount if the qty is over 1000, but I'm not sure if that's per color or not.

We also might get a bulk discount off the $39.99 price if we order enough kits, or if we have her ship it in bulk.

I've asked Frank over on DIYC if it was OK to run a group buy of parts for the Mighty Mini over there, but haven't heard back yet...

    Your thoughts are welcome...

    Mark,

It shouldn't make any difference to anyone on DIYC wheather or not we have a group buy on LEDs or not. After all, he is not selling them, only the boards, which we did buy from him. Just my opinion.

    Don't know Thomas. lol

From the research that Mark did, it doesn't look like we would be able to save very much over CeCes package price, unless Mark is able to sell the concept and get almost everyone there to commit to major purchases also.

Maybe we will know something by Sunday. I'm ready to place my order so I'll have all the parts on hand when the boards arrive, and beat the rush of orders to CeCe from the folks that wait to get the boards first!

That is whyI went ahead an order 4 LEDs packages from CeCe to get ahead for the rush anyway. The blue LEDs are on a 2 week backorder now. The soldering gun is hot and ready. John what kind of connection are you going to use on the
wiring end? Some people are using cat5.

    Thomas

Yes Al you have the triangle food group cover.

    .
I'll probably use Cat 5 also at the lamp housing. It's about the easiest way to handle 8 wires to the same location. On my LOR DC board, I installed 2.5 mm coaxial power plugs, so I'll probably install their mates on the controller end of the Cat cables

No worries on the DIYC crowd.

Colleen did say that if we bought over a 1000 LEDs, of whatever color, she could give us a 10-12% discount off the package price. That's about 20 of the "kits" that she sells. It's only $4-5 off the price of the special package. But then we'd have to ship them out, which would kill the quantity discount advantage already, since she ships for free. So unless I hear otherwise, I'm not sure a coop/group buy makes much sense.

I haven't replaced my resistors yet on the ones I built last Nov/Dec. I fired up one of them tonight while getting ready for the "food group" meeting, and half the Red LED's didn't come on...so I need a few replacements, I think.

The link to the Mighty Mini LED package from c-leds.com listed in post number one has changed. The new link is here:

Carl or William, can you update the link in post number one then delete this one ( # 43 ) so no one gets confused in the future? Thanks

I found a great place for buying the enclosures for $7.03. The shipping calls for a group buy. Shipping rates are to Raleigh. Minimum order of $25 so the minimum is 4 lamps. Clearly, this should be a group buy. Who wants to do it?
    http://www.castlewholesalers.com/REG...ht-Bronze.html

    4 Lamps shipping costs $12.77 or $3.19/lamp
    5 lamps shipping costs $12.97
    10 lamps shipping costs $14.54 or $1.45/lamp
    14 lamps shipping costs $16.21
    20 lamps shipping costs $20.70 or $1.04/lamp
    30 lamps shipping costs $24.80 or $0.83/lamp
    40 lamps shipping costs $27.49 or $0.69/lamp

    Al

I got the link from this Powerpoint Presentation on Mighty Minis. This is an excellent how-to on construction.
