Have 4 boards finished, two are mounted in the cases, ready for testing outside on the house.

John did you get around to test your boards? Try one of mine out tonight, just holding it to see how bright it is on the house.

I will say it is bright and lights the side of the house very well. Better than I thought they would be and I was only using one. Can't wait to see what 4 will look like. The Mighty Mini flood was a good investment.

I tested each color just after assembly. The boards work fine, but.....

I have a problem, with both of my power supply / LOR boards, the power supplies shut down after about 3 seconds when running the LOR Hardware Utility in a chase.

Monoriting the voltage, it drops from 24.1 down to 4.7 volts and the LOR board shuts down. Tried to measure the current draw, but it shuts down before the meter stablelizes on a reading.

If it was only one power supply, I would thing maybe it was defective. But two?

Tomorrow night I'm going to remove the LED circuit boards from the lamp housings and run some more voltage and current tests.

Sorry to hear about that. I have not tested mine with the LOR board yet. Will get it all assembly soon to check and see if I have the same problem.

After I posted a few minutes ago, I decided to go ahead and pull the LED PCB out of the lamp housings, on the one I was testing with, found that the positive wire for the white LEDs had "slipped" out ot the terminal block, and was touching the lamp housing, or who knows what when the card was mounted.. Fixed that, but it seems to have blown the "triac" on channel 4 of the LOR card, it stays on all the time. Switched the lamp to channels 5-8 and it is working OK now (with the PCB just hanging out of the lamp housing.

    Yes, they are BRIGHT!

On the 2nd lamp, my red wasn't working, and discovered the positive lead for the red circuit was broken into completely. I'll fix it tomorrow when I get home from work.

So it does NOT appear to be the power supply after all, just operator error when mounting the PCBs into the lamp housings ! The Power supply was doing it's thing and shutting down when it saw the short!

Oh well, at least I have an idea of the things I need to fix tomorrow. I think I'm going to bed tonight and know now to take some extra care when mounting the next two in their housings.

Then get started building the next four!

This is great news John. And we appreciate you guys pioneering these for us. I will probably be soldering mine from the top of the boat this summer, while anchored out on the lake ...

Glad you found the problem John. The wires slip out off mine also. Don't like the quick connection for the wires. I think I will solder the wires to the PCB on the all of mine from now on.

I found that by stripping a little bit extra insulation off, bending the stripped wire back on itself, seems to give a little more surface area for the terminal block screw to grip onto.

I'll try to post some outside video this weekend

Haven't been too busy at work today. Brought my stuff with me, repaired the wiring in both lamp housings, remounted the PCB and ran some tests. Everything is great, except for the blown Triac/transistor on channel 4 of one of my LOR DC cards. That channel is stuck on.

Debating if I want to send the board back to LOR for repair, or just have them send me the part and do it myself.

If its not raining tonight, I'll try to shoot some video of the thing on a white garage door and the red brick of the house. Thru together a little annimation test program with fades, simple color blends and shimmer. Courious to see how the hot spots of the colors look and how wide of spread vertical and horizontal it puts out.

I was surprise the other night when I was holding only one flood on how wide the vertical and horizontal spread was. I'm sure John video will show this when he get it posted. John just need to get Al there will his old video camera to tape it for him in exchange for a CCR.

The board is bright....the folks that came to the TASL meeting saw how bright mine were. We had one pointed directly at a projection screen and it looks quite bright.

I've about decided to skip the terminal blocks and solder the wires directly to the PCB...

Well Dave, official sunset was at 8:15 but it was still pretty bright out. Waited till 8:45 to shoot the video, Vimeo is converting now. Should have it by 10 or so.

You have got to be kidding, Thomas. Al and his "Missile Launcher size" 8 track video camera uses 216 "D cell" batteries and only records for about one minute before the batteries run down. Al would expect me to be standing there with cases and cases of batteries to run the thing.

No, I don't want (nor can I afford) to have Al shoot any video for me !!
