Default How I keep my lights straight

I've been asked twice now in the past 24 hours in PMs how I keep my lights straight on the house:

    I used 1" x 2" x 8 FT that you find at Lowes for about $0.98 each.

I take one 8 FT section and drill holes at 0.75" on center and do that for the entire length of the 8 FT. This way each light strand is spaced at 3" instead of 4" ( I do this because sometimes on the light strand the lights are not exactly at 4" on center and it also helps to relieve any stress on the strand itself when making some turns).

Once each 8 FT section is drilled I paint it white to match the trim of the house so that it blends in.

I cut the lengths down to size to fit the outline of the house.

I then put the actual light into the holes of the wood and use a few cable ties to hold the strands on.

To mount the 8 FT section to the house I installed 2 eye screws and use cable ties again to hold it in place. Maybe an extra one here and there if I have a long horizontal run but not so many on the vertical runs.

I am using four colors for the entire house... Red, Blue, Green, & Pure White.

The lights I got from CDI last year are the 5mm concave.

One thing I forgot to mention is the other reason why I do this. I do it so that at the end of the season I can take each section down and leave the lights on the sections and just store them in the attic. That way putting the lights up each year should only take a day at the most for me.

Does this mean you wire 4 controller channels to each window frame ?

    .
I have those permantely installed around the front windows of my house. Installed, painted same as trim, can't tell they are there the rest of the year. Been up since the fall of 2007.

Don't work very well at all for more then one strand of lights though. And if the temps get very warm, or vary very much from day to night, the different expansion and contraction rates of the strip and the clips allows the clips to fall off.

Because of this, I only used them the one year, 2007. Got tried of reattaching the lights.

Just my experience with them, in my climate. May work OK in a stable climate, where the temps are more constant.
