Default Mighty Mini 24 Volt Power Supply.

This is a word of caution to those folks that bought the 24volt power supplies from MPJA for the Mighty Mini power supplies. The supplies are shipped in the 240 volt input setting not at 120 volts. The output voltage of the supply will be far less than 24 volts. I hooked up one last night and tested 4 Mighty Minis at the lower voltage setting. Everything looked fine but I was disappointed with the light output and had nothing to base the light output on. The DC controller will not care the voltage is lower BUT the Mighty Mini will act fine but the light output will be substantially less. Check the power supply setting before you install them in the box.

I just tested the 4 MMs after Walter caught the problem. The light output is substantially better.

Interesting Al. Good reminder for some that are not used to working with these.

I have bought 8 power supplies from MPFA this year (24 v and 12 v) and they were all set for 120 volts.

Just as a matter of course, I always check the power input settings, hook up a small load, and test the power supplies before case installation.

As you may remember my MM controller case, ver 3, had two of these 24 volt 6 amps power supplies in it. I have found a source, I think - still waiting for shipping tracking number - for a 24 volt, 350 watt, 14.5 amp power supply, that when received, will go in the case instead of the two MPJA PS. Price was under $20 and they are new. They also had 12 volt 350 watt 29 amp power supplies for the same price. I ordered 2 of the 12 volts units as well. They look (from the picture) to be almost indentiical to the ones that MPJA sells

John, the MMs only draw 800mA total if I remember correctly. However, I suffer from getting older disease and Walter constantly reminds me of my loss of memory.

True, but I have room in the case for 4 LOR DC cards. That would control 16 of the MM for a total of 12.8 amps.

(Just thinking of future expansion, when I saw the power supplies. Only one box to power, then run the cat 5 out to each lamp. My rule is see it, buy it, have it on hand ready to use it.)

Denny did a group buy of those 24V supplies this spring. I finally unboxed one of those a week or so ago, and it was set for 240V. DC output wouldn't go above 22.5-23 V. After I reset it to 120V, it was much better. However, I did redo some of my resistors on at least one or two MMs for the 23V output. I may turn down the voltage to 23V and leave it there.

I tend to have the same rule, but with additions: store it someplace where I'll remember where it is, forget where that is, and buy it again.

I am the exact same way. Walter hides my stuff too just to make me go bonkers.

Dave, just wait until you're my age.

Jack, I solve that problem by buying multiples, putting them in different places, then, no matter where I look, I can find at least one of them (usually)

As soon as the old lady find them, she will move them to another spot to keep you guessing. I know I put it here.
