Got mine in the mail yesterday... Thanks!

Took me about 2 hours to do the first one.... Did #2 today, took about 30 minutes!

Any tips on how to solder these LED's in? I'm doing them one row at a time, holding them in by hand.... it's always the I need 3 hands to solder job

I have a Panavise vise that holds the board. I put the board vertical, and insert 3 LEDs in one row. Then solder one of the legs of the LED in place, pushing it snug up against the board while the solder is hot. Then do the other LEDs in that row. Once a row is inserted and locked, I turn the board so that the LEDs are facing downard, and solder the remaining lead for each LED. Before I cut off the excess legs of the LEDs, I take a 9 v battery with wires attached and test the 3 LEDs at a time. That is, put one wire on the neg side of a LED, and touch the leg of another LED 3 away from the first. If the polarity is correct, those 3 LEDs should light up. This doesn't overload the LEDs, but makes sure that they are wired in place correctly. I do the same for the next 3 LEDs in that row. Once they are all tested, I then cut off the excess lengths for that row.

I then move to the next row and color.

Refunds of $1/kit were issued to those that paid with PayPal. Al, I'll settle up with you later.

Jack, you also got a refund for 3 of your PCBs that I sold to someone else. The remaining PCBs will be delivered to Raleigh this week.

I'll let Denny and Walter decide who gets to give their "boards" to Al. They're still packaged up under your original order.

um.... maybe.... But there are only 8 conductors in a cat 5... that list has 16

To make the MM plug and play into the REN24lv, what would be the color code to wire directly into the MM terminal strip. Using straight thru Standard B Wiring for the crimped end.

Standard B wiring for the crimped end cat 5 is as follows:

    Pair # Wire Pin #
    1-White/Blue White/Blue 5
    Blue/White 4
    2-Wht./Orange White/Orange 1
    Orange White 2
    3-White/Green White/Green 3
    Green/White 6
    4-White/Brown White/Brown 7
    Brown/White 8

Or.... what pin number on the plug pictured above wires into where on the MM?

    Is it as easy as.....
    Red+ = 1
    Red- = 2.....

    On the Ren24LV, the positive leads are the odd ones, so pin 1, 3, 5, 7 are the + side of things. So: For each cat 5 cable - ch 1 - pin 1,2 ch 2 - 3,4 ch 3 - 5,6 ch 4 - 7,8.

You can translate that into wire colors...

I need to program my PICs and try out my Ren24LV in DMX mode.

Just finished my 6th MM.... not that I'm slow... kept running out of solder at 10:30 at night!

Not one bad LED... Great group buy... Thanks Mark!

Now onto the LED Strips and Ren24lv's..... This should be interesting!

I am trying to convince myself to combine my soldering while hanging out at the lake (Jordan Lake) for the weekend. Most often when I get there, any notion of work goes out the window .. I will try tho !

Walter has been spending too much time with a female. He isn't getting my work done. Women are bad Walter. Electronics is good. Let's make number Mighty Mini #1 this weekend or better yet, let's make and test one this weekend. Let's light up the lake. Dinner is included.

Women are bad Walter. Repeat after me, "Women are bad, Christmas stuff is good."

I guess Al convinced Walter to work on the LEDs, since he PM'd me about some minor details late yesterday.

As for me, I'm trying to get my Ren24LV to drive a MM. Those DIY guys didn't follow the DMX standard for Cat5 connections, so I've got to build an adapter to get the signal on the right pins....
