    Default Possible strobe bulk buy

I am considering an Action Lighting Strobe bulk buy. Action Lighting has strobes that are not effected by condensation (or at least from reports that I have read). Action has strobes in red, green, and clear. The price would be slightly higher than CDI's strobes but with a known good product. Action Lighting said we could get quantity prices from 10+ cases even with different colors. Are you guys interested?

If you are talking about the LED strobes, I heard the fire all at the same time for the first 5-10 seconds.

So what's a good number of these to have? I saw several this past year and they're awesome! Does it require one channel to light them or a channel for each one? How does that work?

Thanks in advance for the tips!!!

I use one channel that controls about one hundred strobes. In my stupid opinion, strobes are a neat effect that should be used sparingly. Thus, one channel takes care of it. I started with 25 strobes.

I started with 10 CDI Zenon strobes. I liked how nice and bright they were. I did not notice them all flashing at once. They seemed to be quite random. They were volatile tho. One arrived DOA and CDI replaced it immediately. Then I lost three more to condensation during the month. So I am down to 7.

I would like to have 5 more of these new type (in clear). It's not a lot but I only want them for inside the mega-tree. I liked the effect !

If this is still open, I guess I'd go for a case and figure out what to do with them later...

Yes it is still open. However, I haven't had time to check into discounts and stuff. Work is beating me up. Maybe in March.

The xenon are random. Sorry, I was thinking about xenon strobes.

I'd be interested in 10-20 of the xenon strobes, I got 20 of Paul's LED strobes and had no DOA's or any lost during the season or condinsation. The only thing I didn't like was the fact they would fire 3-4 seconds before becoming random. Most of the times I had them on for the WOW effect was less than 3-4 seconds so they all appeared to flash at the same rate.

    Dave,

The "secret" with the LED strobes is to precharge them. I had great success by turning them on at 20% a half second or so before the full on effect was needed. Mine fired randomly when I used this procedure.

Thanks for the information John, maybe I can stick with the LED's that way since they don't have all the issues that the xenon strobes have. I owe you a tall cool one for that.

    Dave,

As you know I use LOR and this is what worked for me. Since you are DIY, you might want to hook up a controller and do some experimenting with the time and percentage just in case it's different. If this doesn't work out for you, the tall cool one will be on me!

    John and Dave,

The commercial and DIY controllers aren't that much different - it's the same basic electronics, so I would expect a similar behavior. It's a great tip though, cause I wouldn't have thought to do something like that!

    Mark,

That's why I felt "safe" in offering to buy Dave a tall cool one if the tip didn't work

If the strobes have anything other than discrete components, I would not recommend energizing the strobes at voltage levels to which they are not designed. It will eventually do damage.

    Al,

I would agree, but they can't fail anymore often then the ones from Christmas Light Show. lol

I don't know what the component makeup inside the LED strobes is. I'm still waiting for one to fail before I bust the case open.

I used these in my 4th July, Halloween and Christmas displays this past year with no problems so far.

Lost some of the CLS Xenon in each display though.
