Default Christmas Candy Group Buy Interest Thread

I'm checking to see if anyone wants to put together a group buy for Christmas candy. I've looked at these items based on a small per unit cost when ordered in bulk...

Small Red & White Peppermint Mini Canes from Spangler - Currently about $0.0421 each (min 500)
    -imageuploadedbytapatalk1344629473.730322.jpg
Hershey's Christmas Miniatures from Hershey's Chocolate - Currently about $0.0761 each (min 250 ~5 lbs)
    -imageuploadedbytapatalk1344629487.833836.jpg

Depending on how much interest or suggestions we get, we may move forward with these or different items. The small candy canes are already green lighted as these are the same we gave away last year to a few of the folks here.

Ok, just checked Sam's club online to see comparable prices, and it was $7.98 for 250 candy canes. Is there a next level bulk pricing, or is that as cheap as they are getting?

I did a quick glance to check the normal price levels... Depending on interest, I'd start contacting the manufacturers or distributors to negotiate better prices. One thing to keep in mind, is that these are going to be given away, so quality should be somewhat above normal and that is why I'd prefer to stay with more name brand items and try to avoid candy made in china.

No, but that is part of the dealing process and depends on who wants in. Last time I bought the candy canes, I got 20 percent off and got ground shipping for a flat $15 for 10 cases (5000 candy canes).

We're in a bit of a budget bind this year, but I'll see if Helen is interested in the better candy canes. We had a box of the China candy canes and they were smaller and not as strong on the peppermint. I'll let you know ...

I'm probably in, too. My neighbor is a candy distributor. If we are buying bulk, he can get them. I'll ask him about ordering costs this week.

    Rob,

I talked to my neighbor tonight. He said that he didn't have any more contacts over there at his former company. They were also in the process of going bankrupt so it really wasn't an option. He also said that in working directly with a distributor, we can probably get lower prices buying in bulk with Sam's Club. They buy in such volume that they can sell it for cheaper than most distributors can.

Let me know if you find this to be a different experience. Also, my neighbor deals in chocolate so if you're interested in going that route, I can talk to him again.

I think any budget I had for such things went away last Friday (8/10/2012) at 1:03 AM with the birth of our grandson.

Otherwise, I would be very interested.
