    Default Speaker wire bulk buy

I am planning on placing an order for bulk speaker wire with SkyCraftSurplus. If someone wants speaker wire then now is the time. I may buy 12awg due to the distance it needs to span. I might be able to get the quantity price on a smaller guage wire too. I won't ship and it must be picked up in Raleigh. This is what I plan to buy and it will be around 500 feet for me which brings the price to about 36 or 38 cents per foot plus shipping. Shipping has been very reasonable from Skycraftsurplus especially on large orders.

I plan on placing the order within the next week.

Skycraftsurplus has the same wire for $70+shipping in small quantity. With a group buy it could drop to $65+ shipping and no taxes.

is speaker wire SPT1 or 2? I already found out the hard way that landscape wire is "3"...

I'm not sure it has an SPT rating. Generally, speaker wire is not rated for 120VAC. I thought that I might be able to piggyback some SPT wire on the order, but SkyCraftSurplus is out of SPT wire. I think Bruce may have bought what they had left. Sorry.

I just used some of the SPT2 I got through one of the prior bulk buys for speaker wire. I figured it'd be lower loss due to resistance.

For smaller wattage speakers and short runs it would be okay. However, my 4each 200w speakers are at least 100 ft from the amp. I am not utilizing 200 watts but it would really surprise most people how much wattage it takes to have decent music for a large crowd. I have some experience with audio from the haunted houses that I helped with, and it takes quite a lot. I got lucky and my wife had an old Marantz audio amp that has when cranked to 95% gives almost the amount of power necessary. If the crowds keeps getting bigger and my yard reno goes as planned, I will need more speakers. I can lower the audio level and move the speakers closer to the crowd and get far better results.

One thing that shocked me was how much white noise you get from having lots of running cars passing by. And white noise really eats up the strength of your audio in free air.

When I would start my show each night, the audio was set to where it ended from the night before. With very few cars (or none at all) the sound was outrageously loud. I had to turn down the volume every night to start the show, and then increase it as the traffic builds.
