Less than 50' ok? Everyone I've talked to said that's fine!

You are correct! 50 feet of RG6 has a loss of 1.3 db and is only 73.6% efficient in the mid FM band, when fed with a transmitter outputting at 75 ohms and into a 75 ohm antenna

The Ramsey 25B is expecting to see a 50 ohm load, and the RG6 is 75 ohm. Plus the efficiency will drop even more at the antenna since the FM-DX antenna is expecting to be fed with a 50 ohm cable. The FM25B has a typical output of 8 mw to 18 mw

Be sure to tune the antenna as close as possible to the frequency to keep the SWR as low as possible. The Ramsey's had a reputation for the GAL-5 not tolerating very much of a SWR mismatch.

(By contrast, the EDMs are factory tested at a SWR of 20:1)

Yeah what John said. I didn't want to get technical. Thanks John.

Badly mismatch a Ramsey and you will buy another Ramsey. Several people on PC and LOR will confirm that. If you remove the antenna while the transmitter is connected and you will buy another Ramsey.

John, William, and myself have EDMs for a very, very good reason. The EDM PLL circuitry is superior and the final power amp shuts down for impedance mismatches. They are a pain to get buy well worth the long term trouble.

Takes about two - three weeks for shipping from the factory in South Africa.

Price of the EDM LCD kit is about the same as the Ramsey FM-25B kit. The EDM "kit" takes about 10 minutes to assemble, only 3 solder points. You can't screw up the "assembly" of it. If you do, it's under warranty, and the EDM repair depot is here in the USA, and from what I read on the EDM support forum (moderated by EDM engineering staff), they usually just send you another unit from the depot to minimize any down time for their customers.

The final amp will shut down (to protect itself from damage) if the SWR exceeds a 20:1 mismatch, most other transmitters are "killed" if the SWR exceeds 10:1. I measured the SWR with the "test wire" antenna supplied with the EDM at 5:1.

As a ham radio operator, I love all things transmitters, (and have since I built my first QRP CW transmitter when I was about 10 years old- {52 years ago}) and really appreciate the quality of the EDM design.

Just my opinions in case someone in the future reads this thread concerning antennas and FM Transmitters.

If you touch the antenna on a Ramsey while it is transmitting, you will likely also kill the GAL-5. Its a SMD and a total pita to replace.

    EDM-LCD-CS-EP $134 + $15 shipping = $149 total. Except I got in on a group buy and saved about $20 on mine.
