Last year I had some audio distortion from over driving the volume out of the audio card on my PC. I borrowed a four-channel mixing amp from a co-worker which allowed me to drop the volume out of the PC eliminating the distortion.

This spring I found an inline audio amp at which has worked out nicely in my testing thus far. I purchased the AAAA battery powered version, but they have AC and USB powered versions too.

When I purchased, the price of the white Revolution was $19.99. I looked today and I see the price has gone up to $34.99, so they must have been overstocked or else I ran across a sale. Still, it seems to be an affordable solution to sound card distortion.
