Default Seeking FM Antenna (or Cheap DIY Plans)

I would like to make or buy a cheap FM antenna for the Ramsey transmitter I just bought. I have an old dipole on my old transmitter, and the rig works terrible. I never knew if the problem was with the transmitter or the antenna (or both). So I'd like to start fresh with my new Ramsey.

Any suggestions ? Anybody have one for sale cheap ?
    Thanks,

I don't have one for sale (don't even have one myself) but here's a couple of sites on how to build one, taken from the forums of PC.

    http://braincambre500.freeservers.co...%20antenna.htm

I've seen articles talking about using pvc pipes for a framwork, and regular wire attached to that framework.

This is the antenna that I have (tunable version).

I bought good coax from Radio Shack but you can order it from here cheaper:
    http://universalweb.com/CustomCables...ctsLMR240.html

lmr240 coax s a better class that rg8 coax. The less coax that you use the better the signal. This antenna works so well that you could use rg8 cable with great results. I bought RG8 from Radio Shack for mine. I mounted the antenna to the chimney using a piece of black iron pipe and a chimney mount which was a mistake. This chimney mount is not well made You could use a piece of TV antenna mast with the same results as the black iron pipe.

Had it to do over I would use this:

It is such a small antenna that you or anyone else will likely not notice it once installed. The higher that the antenna is mounted the better the signal. Mine works too well--ask me at the meeting about the details. If you want the best antenna this is the one.

Great info Al. Will I need an SWR bridge to adjust the antenna, or do they have a simple process figured out for tuning ?

Also, here's an eBay antenna similar to the DIY. These guys are making claims of being perfectly matched to the Ramsey (with balun and everything already assembled). I like the compact size. I would like my antenna to be mounted inside my garage. I have a 14 ceiling about half way back from the doors.

Denny, you tune the antenna to the frequency so no VSWR meter is necessary. You could use one but I didn't and it operates further than I would like.

That style antenna on Ebay is a good design but the transmission lobe is directional. I opted for a wider area. If you mount that in the garage you need to keep it away from metal objects like cars. You could create an ugly VSWR problem by it being directional. I opted for the roof to uncomplicate matters.

William that is the same antenna from the same company as mine. His customer service is spectacular too.

I love the adjustable FM DX Antenna. I bought one today. I also threw away my piece of crap Indoor Dipole antenna. It never worked more than a couple hundred feet and I blamed my transmitter. I guess I should have RTFM <read the freakin manual>... !
