    Default Servodog and RGB

LOR posted a picture for the servodog today. I plan to discuss this board at the Raleigh meeting. Animatronics and RGB control will be the next wave of decorating.

Looks interesting. Probably over my head for now atleast and definantly not in my budget. I was hoping he would have a video of it in action.

Probably is over Al's head also, Brad.

Video? Just imagine Al down on all fours serving beer to people. That's the best description of a servo dog!

Tsk Tsk. I can't have a normal conversation with adults without our mascot regurgitating some craziness. Tsk Tsk.

Maybe we should tie the mascot in the backyard to keep him away from the adults. Then again he might enjoy being tied up in the backyard. It would not shock me.

Looks nice, but you can build one for far less. I am building some now for an animatronic display I am designing this year. You are right this is the future, especially, when audio and light are combined. This is way cool and easy to do.

You can't build it cheaper than what Al got those controllers for, unless they pay you to build them. Ain't nuthin cheaper than free.

Actually, that was because of a non-compliance issue; LOR guaranteed it'd be in his hands by a certain date or it'd be free. He got the boards for free because they were late.

LOR has great customer service, but that is paid for in the price. Someone has to do it, and they're doing a good job at it.

Build what for less? If you can buy servos cheaper than $10 for 200 oz/in servos I would love to know where.

Sorry friend but I understtood the controller is what is being offered for $89+, not the servos. I can build a controller using a 556 chip and run 8 servos much less than $89+. Guess I misunderstood what is being offered. I thought it was just a controller.

Oh I understand now. Sorry. The ServoDog is more than a timer. It is a RS485 bussed controller with onboard regulators, PWM outputs, and 8 servo controllers. If you made several of them the PC board cost would be a little more manageable maybe $15-$20. The components on the board would run about $20 or so in throughhole but a little more due to surface mount and quantities. So, I guess you could make a similar board for about $35 to $40. But the firmware, board layout, and component population would have to be an act of love as it would be truly labor intensive. The Servodog is about the size of your palm. The Servodog is my favorite controller even though few people own them. It looks like something I would make which is why I guess I like the thing.

Believe it or not it can be done even cheaper by scavaging old boards and such. In our area the garbage drop area is starting an electronic disposal area and I have been told I can get what I want, so recycle for some of the common parts and purchase the major components. Could cut the cost in half again. Easy to do and very cost effective.
